  • @krekmanski Agreed! I've considered deleting this video cause of all the argumentative comparisons of trance to hip-hop. I only put this video up to share the euphoric sounds of trance with the world, along with an aesthetically pleasing image.

  • @enjoi1688 Whoa, hey, don't delete the song! It's awesome! If you want me to shut up and/or remove my prior comments, I will. I honestly didn't intend my comment to spawn so many others.

  • @AstralDragoon Dont worry, Im not deleting the video or any comments. As long as the arguments dont get out of hand by using vulgar language, threats or ignorance (like on most other youtube videos) lol.

  • @TCUENT Hip-hop is so abominably bad compared to trance it's almost absurd; don't insult Above & Beyond by bringing it up here. I'm sick of hearing hip-hop choking out the same uninspired rhythms and crappy lyrics over and over again. It's a shallow genre with no imagination or energy. Trance, by contrast, burns strong and brilliant; it reaches right into the soul and pulls a willing listener out into the deepest emotions, the highest planes, and the wonder of the ether.

  • @AstralDragoon I completely agree. I have just started listening and i listen to it every morning and it literally has done something to me that nothing else has before. Trance is literally a different kind of music than most.

  • @AstralDragoon We're each entitled to our opinions and we each have our tastes and preferences, but I don't believe that's a fair statement. You say that hip-hop is about uninspired rhythms, the same could be said about a lot of trance. Repetitive loops and rhythms that are rehashed and remixed over and over. A genre should be define by the best it has to offer, not its most mediocre. The stuff you hear on the radio is never any genre's best.

  • @fzr1793 Fair enough. I've heard more than my share of blase trance, and I couldn't agree more about what gets aired on the radio. Every genre has produced at least one song I like, but I despise rap and hip-hop in general because I can't find soul or subtlety in them, and their style (especially in the vocals) grinds on my ears. Maybe you're right, and I haven't heard the good stuff, but nothing I've seen from those genres thus far encourages me to listen further.

  • @fzr1793 Thank you for straightening me out, by the way. I'm trying to be less exclusionary about differing interests in music and such, because I feel like a hypocrite when I wonder why nobody I talk to shows interest in trance. It's just that I hate rap and hip-hop so much that I almost get angry just hearing a smidgen of them on the radio (no fooling). I feel I have a bit of an arrogant attitude about my tastes compared to others'. :(

  • @AstralDragoon No problem. Trust me I know what you mean. Every now and then i wonder what it is exactly that I like about hip-hop when I hear what's being produced and played on the radio nowadays. But like I said, you don't hear any genre's best on the radio. I believe good hip-hop is an acquired taste, it takes more than one listen to understand its full beauty and meaning. It's not just cars, girls and drugs, it's meaningful and thought provoking. I recommend you listen to Lupe Fiasco.

  • Comment removed

  • @fzr1793 Back after a while. I heard a song by Lupe on the radio and was not impressed. The lyrics were in the thread of sticking it to the system, and though I won't go on a tirade, lyrics like that don't sit well with me. The music had little depth; I could have been listening to any other hip-hop song.

  • @AstralDragoon Yeah. It was probably from his latest album, which in all fairness wasn't his best work. And like I said before, you won't hear any artist or genre's best on the radio.

  • @AstralDragoon try De La SOuls Keepin' the faith. or oodles of o's, or aesop rocks 9 to 5ers anthem, daylight, or nightlife also by aesop rock. you might get something there OO! or hieroglyphics classic, thats a good one

  • @fzr1793 You sir gainned 1 internet from me!

    But trance fucking rules lol

  • @AstralDragoon thats an opinion i happen to like hip hop and trance... pretty much i like anything as long as it sounds good... in my opinion there are some trance songs better than hip hop songs and there are some hip hop songs better than trance songs... u cant just look at it from one side its music...

  • @CaliberISM Sorry, it's just that I hear no end of it around here and it's ALWAYS bad...

  • @AstralDragoon the shit you hear on the radio isnt hip hop. dude. real hip hop is something like De La Soul, Del Tha FUnkee Homosapien( or the rapper from gorrillaz clint eastwood) atmosphere, eyedea and abilities, p.o.s. eligh ad the grouch. but the first two and including hieroglyphics are what god considers to be hip hop. not speaking for him but in the eyes for everyone 18 and older. those are what hip hop is considered to be, what you hear on the radio is POP. NOT Hip Hop. lil wayne is pop.

  • @AstralDragoon i dont know why this is the top rated comment. im a HUGE fan of trance but you're missing the point. trance is about spreading LOVE not hate. i dont like rap, but some people love it. leave it be, accept the fact that music is for spiritual growth. trance is for LOVE baby love.... so dont spread hate. its a difference of opinion.

  • @ozone923 Your case might hold up if rap actually qualified as music. According to music theory, it doesn't. And the only spiritual growth that rap lyrics foster is degenerate growth.

  • @ozone923 Couldn't agree with you more.

  • @AstralDragoon Ok that's a little harsh man. I can probably say that Trance is my favorite genre of music but I don't just restrict myself to it. I keep my mind open to everything and to say that hiphop is abominably bad is just ignorant. There are many good hiphop artists out there too. Keep your mind open and ENJOY the music! :D

  • @FuLlCiiRcLe I've given hip hop its chance, and I'm done trying. I hate it so much that hearing even a small clip actually inspires feelings of anger. At this point, I'm willing to accept that I simply can't comprehend what people see in it, and leave it at that.

  • @AstralDragoon depends what u listen too some trance is crappy and unoriginal while some hip hop is good dont generalize genres

  • @AstralDragoon LOL trance sucks ass, don't say hip-hop is bad just because you don't understand it.

  • @JYoung3rd Funny that you're saying this while listening to a trance song on YouTube...

  • @AstralDragoon i was listening to the singing, not the beat.i admit the singing is very good.but trust me, hip-hop sells more than trance any day of the week.

  • @JYoung3rd That's because the tastes of this generation are as dull as a spoon. Just look at what's popular on TV. And don't get me started on pop music...

  • @AstralDragoon Well, i agree with part of that.i find most popular reality shows to be retarded.

  • @JYoung3rd Lil Wayne sells more than The Rolling stones, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jackson. Does that make Lil Wayne better because he sells more 'any day of the week'? Laughable.

  • @manbeapig006master MJ & FS are dead.RS's newer music is not as good as their older music so yes lil wayne is better than them (RS).the answer to your question is ambiguous.

  • @JYoung3rd someone needs to define the most important word throughout this whole debate: "better". in this context i don't think genres can be better or worse than any other genre, I also believe that music within the same genre can easily be classified as better or worse, but not by sales/popularity, only by individuals making a personal connection to the music in question. as such I see debates like this rather pointless because good and bad are EXTREMELY relative and personal terms

  • @giantrobot0987 The reason I claim that trance is objectively better than hip-hop is that it is so sophisticated and artistic by comparison. Think of what a trance artist is doing: the sounds composing melody and harmony here sound abstract and depthless individually, but when woven together, they somehow produce a high-energy, emotionally charged result. I don't see any sophistication in hip-hop; every new song I hear in that genre is like the same song with slight changes.

  • @AstralDragoon I can agree with you on a personal level, because trance music is one of my all-time favorite genres and this is one of my favorite songs of the genre mainly for the reasons you listed. But I have heard good artists and bad artists in both genres and that is mostly determined by my personal preference. IMO neither is better because I respect them both equally, It just depends on the mood I'm in. However keep in mind you do make a good persuasive argument for trance

  • @AstralDragoon Hip-Hop on the radio=shit, but if you look you will find some truly GREAT hip-hop music. I will love trance no matter what though :)

  • @manbeapig006master But what do you mean by great? Does it have more depth, or more variety to the rhythm, or better lyrics?

  • @AstralDragoon Putting all hip-hop artists in the same bag is so wrong.

  • @JurisicSantiago I object to the common threads present throughout hip-hop: the focus being almost entirely on the rhythm with little or no attention to other musical elements, the repetitive and shallow vocal style, and the often immoral lyrics.

  • @AstralDragoon How people get to your level of ignorance amazes and worries me.

  • @MashHacker I "got to this level" by hearing the music repeatedly and gradually piecing together why I hated it. This isn't an irrational perspective that I simply spouted out. I don't see how anyone can analyze hip-hop in an elemental fashion and say it's actually good without admitting how shallow their own standards are.

  • @AstralDragoon Lol, you don't know a single thing about hip hop, do you? There is more meaningful hip hop than rap about sex and drugs. That, to me is not even what hip hop is about. Lots of hip hop has a positive message, tells a story, etc. Your views are irrational because you have not looked into the genre because of jumping to a ridicules conclusion. Saying you like trance more is fine but saying there is no imagination or energy in hip hop shows how little you know.

  • @MashHacker I kind of agree with him, to an extent. There is good hip-hop, but there is nothing about hip-hop that I find puts energy into anything. hip-hop and rap actually make me very irritated. I always tell people when I meet them to not play it around me because I tend to blow up on very minor things :/ Some music is annoying but none other than hiphop and rap actually induce anger rofl

  • @Rammstein2720 I'm glad you agree with me on the anger issue. I don't know why the feeling is so strong; for me, it might be a combination of two things. One, the extremely negative associations I have connected to those types of music, and two, the fact that such hideous "music" is what's considered good, such that it is played constantly in the place of artistically superior material.

P.S. Rosenrot is an awesome song. :)

  • @AstralDragoon I don't really know what it is. It usually doesn't seem well done to me, but even if it is well done and I'll admit it, it still inflicts feelings of anger. I don't really like much broken beat music, but none make me angry other than hip-hop lol. It's like an incessant nagging in my head and I can't focus on anything, I get a bit of a headache. It's kinda like being put into "fight or flight" mode and it chose fight, but I have no idea what I should be fighting.

  • @Rammstein2720 I've heard more good hip hop than bad. I know what to and what not to listen to and what I listen to does not make me angry.

  • @MashHacker If there is more meaningful hip-hop out there, great, but I certainly never hear it from any commonplace sources. Besides, even if a hip-hop song had respectable lyrics, it wouldn't be enough to compensate for the musical shortcomings that manifest in virtually every single song the genre puts out. I wouldn't deny that perhaps there have some decent hip-hop songs, but the genre on the whole is more or less hopeless.

  • @AstralDragoon Not some. LOTS. The chances you gave were obviously worthless. Not liking something is fine but being totally ignorant to it, cmon man. Virtually every song? You must have listened to some seriously shitty hop hop mate! haha

  • @AstralDragoon How about I recommend a few...?

    Brother Ali - Fresh Air

    DubFX - Intentions

Naughty by Nature - Ghetto Bastard (everything's gonna be alright)

    Eminem - Searchin

Souls of Mischief - 93 till infinity

  • @MashHacker

Man, forget trying to reason with this guy. He's clearly a misguided ignorant misanthrope given by the diatribes he spouts out on a daily basis.

Your energy is better spent else where than arguing with fools. Let's go back to listening to hip hop and trance and whatever the hell makes us happy.

  • @Zuzla9 There may still be hope for him. I have to try. If his response continues the pattern then i'm out lol.

  • @Zuzla9 Misanthrope? That seems uncalled for. I only get this way when talking about hip-hop because it makes me so mad. It's not like I go about my day ripping on everything and everyone I see. Why do people take my criticism of hip-hop so personally?

  • @MashHacker OK, I'll check these out. I'll let you know what I think of them.

  • @AstralDragoon It really is a shame so many say an entire genre is crap, every genre has good songs, saying otherwise shows 1 of 3 things or all 3. Ignorance, closed mind or too fucking lazy to find a good song.

  • @MashHacker As I've said in another related comment on this video, I've given hip-hop plenty of chances to redeem itself in my eyes, and it hasn't managed. Sifting through piles of garbage songs to find a tiny number that are less abysmal makes no sense to me. If I had heard as many horrible trance songs as I have horrible hip-hop songs, I would never have bothered delving into trance.

  • @AstralDragoon I enjoy trance...but I have been listening to hip hop for most of my life and I find your comments to be grossly ignorant. It is true that virtually all "hip hop" on the radio is shallow and has no depth...but honestly I don't listen to any genre on the radio looking for depth...most people can't understand or don't want to understand meaningful lyrics and inspired rhythms...because most people are pretty shallow.
