@kop4321 Both rounds are known killers. I would not say they suck. At short ranges 5.56mm can cause larger wounds than 7.62mm NATO, and with high-quality rounds such as the 77gr Mk262, it can create larger wounds at any range.

5.45mm M74 never fragments but does yaw, and I'd consider it's stopping power to be roughly equal to 7.62x39mm M67. It also produces way less recoil, better accuracy, and weighs less than said M67 round. In FMJ rounds, 5.45 wins hands down, while 7.62 is better in JSP.

The Russians probably have kept the AK-101 for special forces. They are good shot on range, but that's all. issued M16/M4 are not even 1/3 as good as AK-74 for all which is important in terrain : reliability, cumbersomeness, firepower, ruggeness. AK-74 accuracy is not as good as M16 but this factor is worthless out of shooting range, because both can kill a man at 300m, first shot.

What type of ammo did they use on the m16 for this testing? It seems to me that they use surplus ammo instead of the standard cartridge issues by the US Army (green tip ss109, 62 grain bullet) that would be a better comparison. But this is just fine with me by letting the bad guys think we uses the substandard ammo for that could be his sad miscalculation. My only wishes is that the Army spend $500 to convert m16 from gas to piston operate system; this would make it an ultimate rifle; like m14.
