@CLayneH10 so true... whenever shorter gets mentioned, its in praise of his composing. of course hes one of, if not THE, greatest jazz composer of the past 45 years, but he's also one of the greatest improvisers of all time. listen to his solo on mahjong from juju. he plays with a purity of expression that you really cant get anywhere else. its fucking sick bro!
these are brilliant musicians as everyone knows. but this performance seems forced, self-indulgent. some tunes (like this one) you either just play simply or leave alone. they don't require "Weatherizing."
There's another POV...Vastness is contained in the smallest particles of space and time. We must always allow ourselves the choice to stretch that envelope, lest we end up where the music industry has currently driven the arts to, Just a thought.

Amazing still. I find myself listening to Weather Report and Gram Parsons often lately. Figure that out....

Didn't the original Weather Report start as one of the lab bands at North Texas State.? Was it the 9 o'clock lab band, can't remember right offhand

Every time Zavi plays acoustic he reminds me of Duke Ellington, who was apparently a great influence on the guy.
Man. How I wish Jaco were among us. It's interesting to try to imagine what Jaco and Hendrix would be playing today!

@poorpy134
spot on. well said man. Precisely, Jaco did to bass what Hendrix did to guitar! peace

@todds7 Something tells me Hendrix would be doing gospel type music and Jaco would be a freelance kinda guy, making appearances with random people.

@todds7 Mankind was cheated when we lost Hendrix and Jaco. OMG, together, they would have left the "music world" shaken to its very core!
