OH Thank you!!!!!! I've been trying to find this little sound bit for over 2 years going through my old audio tapes and everything I could think of. Coolest 4 seconds of sound ever right? !
This brings back great childhood memories for me, it was always exciting to see it before one of CBS's special shows--you knew you were in for something good!
LOL, okay, okay, everybody - sorry this took so long. In the next few days, I'll post a the MP3 of Morton Steven's "Call to Danger". Watch my channel for the upload.
@raposofan Thank you! Looking forward to this. "Call to Danger" has such 60's funkiness and I'd love to know how many percussionists were used to create the bombastic drum part. Thanks in advance for posting this gem.
Still a Classic to this day...If they had still used it into the 21st century, they would have adapted it to HD when CBS began airing primetime HD programming a decade ago (at the time of Super Bowl XXXV, which CBS aired.)
This remastered version of "A CBS Special Presentation" opening bumper earned a 6 for its high tone sound. The opening has a much clearer, a much truer, and a much sharper sound for its special presentation bumper. Well Done!!
Could you please post A Call to Danger? I've been searching for that track for ages... just love that piece. Plus, I love to explain to people that it was the basis for the Special Presentation snippet.
I remember this from when I was a kid. I was born in '78 and I can recall seeing this cue from time time on television way back when. Still memorable even today, good work.
I was born in 82, I remember getting exciting seeing this, because I knew it was time for Charlie Brown! Or something else "special"! Love childhood memories.
Apologies for the nitpick, but even though this ident might have originated in 1973, the video used here has to be more recent, given the [cc] logo. Still, nicely redone.
I'm a typical Gen-Xer, with this ident burned into soul, and not until this moment have I ever made what should have been a blindingly obvious connection between this and the Hawaii Five-O soundtrack. Plus it's in STEREO! Many thanks for this!
Cool! Interestingly, the 'original" version has some sort of extra percussion loop (before the french horn comes in) that gives it a 9/8-type feel (for you musicians out there). This might have been added for better animation sync with the final horn note. Also, if you tap your foot with the original, you'll come out on the upbeat. Doing the same with this remastered version is easier - this "unextended" version makes more straight-ahead musical "sense". Cool pieces like this do influence us!
I have the Hawaii Five-O soundtrack. This audio is from that soundtrack (the cue is called "Call to Danger"). I put the cue in Audacity and edited it down from 1:32 to the 00:05 logo cue we all recognize. Since the soundtrack is in stereo and was a very clean recording, it didn't need any adjustments in Audacity. All I did was cut it up, edit it back together the way CBS did, and it works.
Oh - one more step I forgot to mention: once Audacity gave me a nice clean mp3 to work with, I just synched it to my own copy of the CBS SP logo, replacing the crusty original audio with the clean one. Video and audio were synched using Sony Vegas Movie Studio software. I had Sony saved it as an .avi, and there you have it. :)
Ahhh, I see, nifty! It sure beats the quality of the original audio (which I'm guessing was from the optical soundtrack of the film print source that the logo was aired from, it sure sounds like it's from a dodgy optical ST ;) ).
Now that you mention it, I do remember reading somewhere on the 'net that the CBS SP music was adapted from Hawaii Five-O's soundtrack, specifically the "Call To Danger" cue you mentioned.
All in all, great work, and thanks for posting it!
Whenever you saw this you knew shit was about to go down.

The scare factor may come from the music and the logo...spinning to a dance-beat...slamming in the screen; at least that's what I think

awesome logo because of the neon lights

They used this well into the 80s, long enough for us Gen-Yers to remember it too.

I remember this showing up as late as 1995. (I saw it in front of A Charlie Brown Christmas that year.)

This is nicely done, very crisp. I always loved this logo.
One thing, though: To my ear, it sounds as though the music is nearly a half-step sharp compared to the original as I remember it.
(That is, the "original" logo; I don't remember the Hawaii Five-O cue.)
Is it possible that there could be a sample-rate issue -- or perhaps that CBS slowed down the original cue slightly to create the logo?
Still, it's a beautiful remaster. I've been hoping somebody would do this for a long time.
