I never had one and the first time i started gauging i got to half inch within 3 months of even having my ears pierced. i had to take them out because of a job and now i stretched back again to half from an 8g hole which took me around two weeks.

@Zanirtak silicone can cause problem like dryness, and if you leave it in too long, the dryness can get to the point that your ear sticks to it and bad things can happen from there. Don't stretch with silicone. but as long as you have been at your current size for at least 2 or 3 weeks and your ears are healed up, silicone is fine
