It really stole the show from a fairly disappointing (at least that's what I remember it as) main event between Austin and The Undertaker.

What makes the Rock good on the mic is that his character never really changed when he went from a heel to a face. It was at a time when Attitude was the theme so it makes the Rock so memorable. You look at John Cena when he was a rapper heel and look at his Marine face you almost miss his old character.
This is why I loved the early years of The Rock as a heel, rarely used catchphrases with long pauses.. and come up with insults randomly that you'd expect.

@LChris6 he wouldn't of turned heel IMO as he would've came back to the US with people supporting him. The nostalgia of Hogan returning to Canada played a huge part in it.
It was a blessing in disguise because he did some of his best heel work during that heel run. Not to mention we got a kick ass intro with his Hollywood theme.

Also the Nations main Rival DX was imbloding and Triple H joined the Corperation. The Rock would be a face for another 3 months where he joined the corperation defeating Mankind for the WWF Title at Survivor Series with McMahon's help in the final round of the Deadly games Tournament for Stone Cold's vacant WWF Title.
The Rock was still technically a heel. He came out with Mark Henry which means that The Nation didn't break up yet. When The Rock started feuding/teaming with Mankind and Ken Shamrock and also feuding with Undertaker and Kane he got real positive reactions.
