I was on the upperdeck before, in my JL741 flight. it only has one aisle. and a larger baggage compartment beside the window beside your seat.

but i didnt expect that ill be on an upper deck, i think i was there because of my very late check in at narita.

It's a 300. Japan 744 operating domestic flights have no winglet..... The flight to Okinawa is only 2/3 hours (don't remember) no more.

What a waste of money for jai to run a plane that is half full or even three qtrs full surly not good money wise or pollution wise ether so really I think think they need to review how regularly they need to run this flight clearly. On the bonus side it must have been good to have got a bit more of a waitress or waiter on foot though lol

It's not a waste of money. Maybe this very single flight is, but in the long run it isn't.

An airline has to buy take-off and landing slots long before the actual flight. If they don't use these slots they are lost, you can't get them back on another day/time. Besides that there is a chance that you won't be able to buy these slots in the future.

Furthermore, this plane is probably scheduled to maken another flight shortly after this one. So it needs to make this flight anyway, to get there.

Unfortunately, JAL is wasting money on the 744D domestic flights. They've officially anounced to stop service and closed the upper-deck area so literally, you now see Jumbo Jets flying within Japan without passengers sitting on the 2nd floor. JAL did this to cut FA, magazine and fuel etc. costs.

In addition, the flip side is that they don't have enough money to replace these birds to the efficient newer planes.

Same on international flights. I bet JAL is the #1 carrier of using the -400s yet.

on jal/ana's 744D first class is on the upper deck with NO biz class. its all economy on the lower level.

i dont understand why they dont put winglets on the Ds myself?

because its only for short flights so their cruising altitude isnt very high and the winglets just increases the aircrafts range

Winglets give the plane more range. But since its domestic, it doesn't need that extra range.

do all the Upper Deck Economy Class on B747 of Japan Airlines don't have personal TV screens? Is it only the main deck? When i rode JL couple years back, i rode on the main deck and they had personal screens... This year is my first time riding upper deck.. tell me if it's good or bad so I can change my seating arrangement. (International Flight) THANKS!

I think there are no individual TV screens on this aircraft because it's a "domestic configration". Upper deck is a nice and quiet place. Better than main deck.

If that was 747-400 where were the winglets. I think that might have been -300, but you were there so your're probably right

Most of the B-747-400 operating domsestic flights in Japan (ANA and JAL) have no winglets. It's a special serie made for them.

Just a few passengers on that flight from Naha (Okinawa) to Tokyo. We asked to be seated on the upper deck at check in but they said "no" because they needed weight on the rear. During the flight, I asked a flight attendant, then she asked the pilot and we were allowed to go there......

I really hate the upper deck on 747's, whatever class is in it. It doesn't have that large plane feel. But the first class area at the very front of the main cabin is fine. Now, the A380's huge upper deck is a different story . . .

No. On domestic flights, JAL 747's (I think ANA too) upper deck are economy class.
