I like the quote someone famous tip. I just wrote a research paper on Thoreau, and ended with a quote from Tron. Sounds dumb, i know, but it ended perfectly and I got 98%. Take it for what its worth.
Best writing advice came from my sixth grade teacher. Write how you speak is the key. You mention reading out loud, and that is vital. Thumbs this comment up if you agree.
I did exactly what you said in this video with my secound book. People have sort attention spans so you have to keep it brief. The ending I always had touble with, I'll have to try that.
Im publishing m poetry book called "Everything Poetic" soon. I was just sent the attatchments today for it to be reviewed. Then with my consent, they (my publishing team) can begin to illustrate the covers and the inside pages along with my poems. I write about anything really when I write poetry. You can add me if you like and I can send you more information in a more private messege. Also I can send you (everything is copyrighted) a small piece of my novel and let you see what it is about also
Lol guess you summed that up for me hahahaha :p Although I am a writer/author so I already knew this and was just curious. Im writing a full length novel and I also write poetry (The book comes out around christmas time). I love writing and its always been a passion of mine :) But you did give some good advice to the beginners :)
Thanks for your comment. I know the advice is brief, and I admit I'm not the best speaker in the world! But these statements comes from a little book I wrote on short writing, and I go into much detail there. I will do my best to speak better in the future.
You're welcome, but, in retrospect, your video's statement does somewhat apply to the over all nature of a full length novel.
Focus on a single thing: Have all your plot points or large bodies of description develop your character, your characters goal, the main idea of the story, the pacing of each scene, or the emotional strain of the scene.
Try to keep the subject short: Pretend your reader has ADD; have frequent changes in pacing and action as the story moves along.
Yes, you are correct! This method would NOT for writing a full-lengh novel. Thanks for looking at the video. I hope it will help you in other forms of writing.
If you are no good at writing then let me share my secret with you on how to overcome your frustration.
Give up.
: )
It works. It really works. You're frustration will dry up overnight and you'll find an extraordinary untapped reserve of energy which can be poured into something far more rewarding.
Like reading novels written by other people who know how to write.
I liked this video because this guy goes right to the point and doesn't waste time with all these fancy graphics. This person gave concrete ideas just as the video stated. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words! I do writing workshops for schools and colleges, and in future videos will try to answer the most common questions attendees ask. Again, thank you for your kind comment! Rix

What I love most about this is not the video itself, but the users commenting below with misspellings and grammatical errors in their criticisms. LOL

WeLoveSpyaxe,
You're confusing your "you're" and "your."
The adverb form of 'utmost' is 'utterly.'
"You're advice is utmost useless and your reading it." [sic] should read,
"Your advice is utterly useless and you're reading it."
Three prime pedagogic themes to live by - WAKE UP, SHOW UP and PAY ATTENTION.

I don't think this method works when whiting a full length novel. I imagine that this cutting character development completely out of the picture.
