Phil Spector did not produce Bob Dylan's "Just like a women" off of the "Blonde on Blonde Album-Producer Bob Johnston . Very funny clip at the end with John Lennon thanking Phil is really making fun of Phil if you utube it u will see in full clip. John actually had a hard time recording with Phil on his solo album as John was finally growing out of his pop stage and was really getting serious about lyrics and his own music style. At best Phil is a really great "POP" Producer.
the back up singer in the first song looks like will ferrell! if you ever get a chance watch old ike and tina turner videos. you will never forget them!
You know why music from this period is timeless? because afterward music became about studio tricks and continued to lose its humility ever since. It's funny to me how now we have all this technology and still can't manage to touch what was made then. Music is human leave it human and keep all the other unnecessary crap out of it, simply less is always more.
As a songwriter and record producer, Phil was a genius. As a human being, he's a monster. His descent into drugs, madness and whatever else ate him alive, began after the failure of "River Deep- Mountain High", by Ike & Tina Turner, to reach the "Top 10" in 1966; that record virtually shattered Phil's confidence in himself and his talent. The Lana Clarkson affair is what finally did him in. Unlike Brian Wilson, who eventually climbed out of his "hole", Spector couldn't.
Too bad his accomplishments blow your whole life out of the water, and even if he did murder someone, he has still accomplished more than you.
He had a fucking castle, literally. Google that shit! Castle. 40 years of money, making real music. He may have gotten out of hand one night, but that happens in the streets everyday.
In the newspaper last week in New Jersey. A guy owed another man $5,000 and the dude went there to "hurt him" well the guy was smaller than the other guy and he died. Things got out of hand, that is what it is called when things are good then go awry. I'm glad we had this discussion, otherwise you may have been very confused.
@assmuncher1984 I don't give a crap what he did in his life, I simply made an observation that he HAD ACCOMPLISHED a lot you idiot, why don't you read what I wrote. But , that he will rot in prison for the rest of his very bizzare life for as you put it..."gotten out of hand one night"... I guess murder in cold blood is no big deal to you, after all, happens every day right? I had a bad day, is it OK if I come to your house and put a bullet in your head...you dumb ass,
@Boss6219 - Thanks for your support! BTW The Bob Saget Army has been going strong since 2005, so don't get your panties all in a bunch because you thought I made something up. It is very hard to live in Los Angeles, the pressures, the lifestyles, and the people who work in the industry. Phil's work is matchless, thus it is sad how he ended up.
Spector was great but I think the drugs took him down, I suspect either heroin or cocaine, or both, which is basically drugs that absolutely destroy the will for anything except for that drug. Howard Hughes was the same way. He ended up locking himself away for years all the way till his death doing nothing but drugs 24 hours a day and eventually you start going crazy.
@snuffelbaarsje Agreed. But in all honesty Spector hadn't done anything for yrs by the time he was arrested. He became terrified of destroying his legacy, hence the inactivity or even attempts to get back to work. I seriously doubt that he would have done much. Rotting away in jail is a terrible end, though, especially for someone like Spector

Phil was a genius! He only had one MONO speaker to pump out sound at that time, either a transistor radio or a car dash speaker and the wall of sound maximized the listening experience. Sincere thank you for this fine video. Obviously some JERKS here miss the point of maximizing available technology.
Somewhere, a long time ago, I read a funny story about how he called the Beatles in for a special session at the studio. When they came into the room, he had it setup with 16 speakers, each playing a different track on one of their songs. I think it was George who covered his ears because the sound was driving him crazy, and the rest of them said, "That's nice, Phil. Now can we hear it on just 2 speakers, like it will sound on a NORMAL stereo?"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Phil's Greatest Hits: 1. To Know Her Is to Kill Her 2. Every Breath I Take Away 3. I Could Have Loved You So Well - If I Hadn't Killed You 4. Da Doo Run Run Run Away from Phil 5. Not Too Young to Get Murdered 6. Then He Killed Me 7. Dying In the Rain 8. You've Lost That Breathin' Feelin' 9. What Is Death 10. Try Some, Buy Some, Die Some 11. Bangla-Death
7Beers, PHIL IS INNOCENT! Ain't no way he could of killed that greedy wench. She did it to herself and the record execs are trying to stop paying him what they OWE!
It's a conspiracy thoery just like those 911 truthers and alec jones.
Wow...even though the guy had a history of getting angry when drunk and pulling out firearms, you so easily say he isn't guilty? The guy SHOULD have gotten some help to overcome his addiction to alcohol... Things like this can happen to anyone if they are out of control and in a dark enough space. He did it. He had a history with alcohol and firearms. Get over it. He should have grown up! Instead, he took a life.
He may have been a master in recording, but his history dictates that he probably killed a woman. So, he will pay the price. Had he cleaned up his act previously, this wouldn't have ever been an issue, right? Sorry, but the likelihood is that he pulled the trigger while drunk. And, so he must be punished. He took a life. He should have stopped drinking and raging and waving around firearms, as people that knew him testified to. He has many issues, and so he pays the price. That's life.
Also, man.....learn to spell, would you? His name is right up there at the top of the page and you couldn't type it properly? He's "the" master...Phil "Spector" is "INNOCENT" and you are such a "HATER." Take some time and educate yourself. It isn't that complicated.
Wow. We live in such a dumbed-down society that people have come to expect rilly bad speling and the blind worship of obviously deranged personalities, to the point at which an attempt at sarcastic humor doesn't get through.
Well, it's refreshing to know there's at least one person on this planit who can spel!
Those with interest in West Coast Motown, google "lost my athletic scholarship after participating in the civil rights sit-ins". This is from that page about Frank Wilson of Motown (& note "regulars"): "The[...] musicians for [a particular late '65 Motown session] were pulled from the studio regulars that included Billy Strange, Glen Campbell, Hal Blaine, Al De Lory, Carol Kaye and Tommy Tedesco.[...] As far as it can be established the tapes were dispatched to Detroit [in] November 1965[....]"
Quote from Frank Wilson of Motown from that page, which says "Frank Wilson March 2009" near the top: "Gordy came out several times [to L.A....] [W]e were taking [him] to the airport[...] and he said, 'What makes you think you can produce?', I said, 'Because I've been producing much of the stuff that you've been hearing'. So he turned to Marc [Gordon] and Hal [Davis]. He said, 'Is that right?' And they said, 'Yes, that's right'." (Matches very well with claims CK made to me JNS about 8 years ago)
More from that F. Wilson page you can find by googling "I lost my athletic scholarship after participating in the civil rights sit-in demonstrations": "During 1964-65 Frank [Wilson] saw an increasing number of his compositions being released[....] Frank[...] soon found himself[...] supervising recording sessions.[...] At some point in 1965 the decision was taken to launch Frank Wilson as a Motown artist in his own right[... recording in] Armin Steiner's 8 track Sound Recorders studio[....]"
More from that page re Motown producer (etc.) Frank Wilson and his peers (who don't include Slutsky, who never attended any '60s Motown session or met Jamerson or Benjamin): "When Berry Gordy decided to open a West Coast Motown office, following his visit there to attend a disc jockey convention in 1963, he asked L.A. veterans Hal Davis, and Marc Gordon to take charge." (Matches what CK's been saying publicly for years -- frequently resulting in scornful reactions from her energetic detractors)
Kevin... A truck driving, red neck, jew hating, high school drop out who has issues with women, apart from the ones who are smashed out of their heads on cheap suds...
Let's all contact Kev today to let him know what we think of him
i know he was involved with a lot of hits.......but he always struck me as way way over rated.
many of those hits do have an appeal but there is hardly any truly great songs among them, most are just pop slock from the era in which they were produced. and i also have serious doubts as to how much he influence the likes of the Beatles and such.
He left a powerful body of work that holds up and still sounds fresh when so much of the music of his contemporaries sounds dated and uninspired. 'Baby, Please Come Home', 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'', 'My Sweet Lord', even 'I Love How You Love Me' still grabs the listener. Phil is clearly a deeply disturbed dude who needs to locked up, but the attempt made relentlessly over the past 6 years to paint his musical gifts as "schlock" is really get out of hand.
Sorry... I misread kev's profile... he likes Chicks who drink beer..... so long as they are not Jewish weasels.... I'm guessing his mother still lives him but I can't see why...
Bubba: yo yous wants to bes de wife or de husbands? Phil: i'll think i'll be husband. Bubba:"well' come on over here and gives yo wifes a blow job!! bitch
Incredible. The range of muscians and artist that he was able to work with.
I also love the Paris sisters and the teddy bears - and thought it was interesting that he worked with both groups- similar but distinct in their own rights
I think if the ramones started with Spector and stayed with him - they might have cut it. But maybe they were too limited with the cords they could play
I also read somewhere that Spector stressed the shit out of them. It didnt last long.
Truly awesome vid. Spector was/is a genius in the studio but he's also a creep. Perhaps someday, another type of genius can come up with a genetic or pharmaceutical solution to those who are creeps without taking away their genius. Einstein seems to be at least one exception to the creep as genius or genius as creep rule.
Time will tell if Phil did wrong in the Lana Clarkson incident. But there's no denying the man is a genius and gave the world a lot of beautiful music.
That's the point. Once dead people can't remember him as an assasin it would't be right, but as a genius. What has been more important in his life, music or crime? When Ray Charles died on a film of his life he was remembered as an heroin addict. Please everybody, be serious.
08 spector trial is on, The approach his lawyer says is the only way to combat what defense considers most damning evidence against Spector,is the testimoney of 5 women he dated over last 25 yrs, none knowing the other, say he terrorized them with guns under similar circustances. Not brought into testimoney at the trial but at the pretrial, people he worked with in studio, say He would pull a gun on them while drunk if they wanted to leave the recording studio and he didn't. He killed her
Love his work... I have and will never listen to anything this nut did ever again... I would not support a maniack because he has talent ... but behind closed doors. He does this... over and over and over Love Him?
Spector's kinky habit, putting a gun to the head of woman. He used to pull guns all the time when he didn't get his way. Love Him?
Lana was leaving, he turned out to be a little bit too weird. The drunkard scary gun game failed, when she tried to leave.
Great compilation, of most of his early 60s stuff, of course never complete, for where is that Optimum of Spectorism, River DeepMtn High ??, and , what did he do with the Beatles any way, and.....where are the \Ramones ? Rock & Roll High School??
Johnny Herring is Hollands Spector fan numero uno, since 1962.

Who are "they"? John Lennon? Ringo Starr? George Harrison?
Pleased with how the Let It Be album turned out, they all sought out Phil Spector to produce their early solo records.

Phil has been associated with The Beatles since before they arrived in New York for the first time.

7Beers, PHIL IS INNOCENT! Ain't no way he could of killed that greedy wench. She did it to herself and the record execs are trying to stop paying him what they OWE!
It's a conspiracy thoery just like those 911 truthers and alec jones.
LONG LIFE PHIL!!!
geojoey15 2 years ago
Wow...even though the guy had a history of getting angry when drunk and pulling out firearms, you so easily say he isn't guilty? The guy SHOULD have gotten some help to overcome his addiction to alcohol... Things like this can happen to anyone if they are out of control and in a dark enough space. He did it. He had a history with alcohol and firearms. Get over it. He should have grown up! Instead, he took a life.

He's DA MASTER!!!!!!!1 Phil Spekter is INICINT and YOU ARE SUCH A HADER!!
geojoey15 2 years ago
He may have been a master in recording, but his history dictates that he probably killed a woman. So, he will pay the price. Had he cleaned up his act previously, this wouldn't have ever been an issue, right? Sorry, but the likelihood is that he pulled the trigger while drunk. And, so he must be punished. He took a life. He should have stopped drinking and raging and waving around firearms, as people that knew him testified to. He has many issues, and so he pays the price. That's life.
ddviolinist 2 years ago
Also, man.....learn to spell, would you? His name is right up there at the top of the page and you couldn't type it properly? He's "the" master...Phil "Spector" is "INNOCENT" and you are such a "HATER." Take some time and educate yourself. It isn't that complicated.
ddviolinist 2 years ago

Nice post. What a shame Spector lost his mind. Sorry about Lana.
cynsmi 2 years ago
i know he was involved with a lot of hits.......but he always struck me as way way over rated.
many of those hits do have an appeal but there is hardly any truly great songs among them, most are just pop slock from the era in which they were produced. and i also have serious doubts as to how much he influence the likes of the Beatles and such.
janb6969 2 years ago
He left a powerful body of work that holds up and still sounds fresh when so much of the music of his contemporaries sounds dated and uninspired. 'Baby, Please Come Home', 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'', 'My Sweet Lord', even 'I Love How You Love Me' still grabs the listener. Phil is clearly a deeply disturbed dude who needs to locked up, but the attempt made relentlessly over the past 6 years to paint his musical gifts as "schlock" is really get out of hand.

I think if the ramones started with Spector and stayed with him - they might have cut it. But maybe they were too limited with the cords they could play
I also read somewhere that Spector stressed the shit out of them. It didnt last long.

Let's not forget that one of his biggest triumphs Unchained Melody the arrangement was done by Jack Nitzsche.

You set a rather low bar for "genius".
Baskerville22 3 years ago
