It's so funny, you know, everyone complains about the film and Godard, which is absolutely fine, it's their opinion... but why do you watch it then? Why do you watch a Godard film if you think he's such a jerk?
Godard is a hypocrite for casting Bardot. The Ulysses angle is also incredibly boring. He probably enjoyed The Bad and the Beautiful and hacked it. Thus this iis the actual remake. This went from artsy to fartsy pretty darn quick. It's hard to accept this as social commentary when everything in front of us is rich and famous. I'll watch Bunuel over Godard any day.
@SocraticTruths But you gotta love how ironic and contracditory this film was. Godard argues against the Hollywood and comercial cinema, criticizing a system that only makes money rather than care about art but then he calls an box-office star like Bardot to play the main role and this was Godard's most successful film at the time in France. I Agree with you about the Ulysses angle, it's boring and doesn't add much to the film.
@SuperRod88 Maybe you are right. It's only my humble opinion dissing this movie. I finally tracked down Alphaville. That one hit the spot without rubbing it out. Man, it's like vegetables. We all have our preferences and our dislikes. Even though I hated this movie, I will never say it was pure garbage like an Ed Wood film. Maybe because I liked The Bad and the beautiful so much, this one with its similarities turned me off. The casting of Fritz Lang seemed to backfire too.
@SocraticTruths I liked this film but not that much as many tend to say they like, so far my only disappointment with Godard was La Chinoise, a film that fires to so many directions but never seem to make a point of all that conversation about socialism. Yes, The Bad and the beautiful is really impressive and better than Contempt. But why do you think Lang's casting backfired? I actually liked him more than the real actors, somehow he was interesting.
@SuperRod88 I will contradict myself and agree watching Fritz Lang was interesting.I watched Garbo last night in As You Desire Me. It was a dreadful film. Garbo wasn't even that good. The play was totally hacked apart. But, it was still interesting to check her out. Maybe I had trouble with this one because of the back and forth with languages. I also seem to have much difficulty finding good volume levels at youtube. I'm no expert on Godard. I do respect how he was on the moral side of history.

This was so sad...Seems like it would make a very very amazing remake of movie with some current stars...or maybe even an younger version

Why should it be remade? It is perfect the way it is. Unless you are being sarcastic.

I hope your not talking about an american remake :/ That would take away the beauty of the film, let's just keep it this way ;)
