Great cinematics and graphics, too bad the game sucked! I love a lot of the Final Fantasy games, but I don't think I found a single possible likeable character, or at least respectable, the gameplay was ruined by hours of drawing magic and junctioning bullshit, and suspension of disbelief is broken too many times. Why does everyone love this game? I gave it a good honest chance.

I absolutely LOVE Final Fantasy as a saga, but VIII is NO better than VII... storywise VIII is one of the weakest ones. Too many rushed back stories and plot holes. I'm not a hater... I'm just saying. Even the old ones like IV were better... PLOTWISE. IX is one of the most underrated ones... just because it has fugly character design

That's because they tried to rush the games. Back in the early days of NES, the game was restricted by the limits of the 8-bit system, so you couldn't have a very deep story lines.

By the mid 90s, the new 5th gen consoles had advanced far beyond what was ever previously possible. The problem was that following the success of FFVI, the FF series was at its height and Square was pushing a new title's release every year. As a result, the games were half done and never reached their full potential

I still think FFVIII was the most unique (and my favorite) because it was the most realistic and had many parallels to the real world. You could relate the nations of the FFVIII world to that of WWII earth and many of the events in the game to real world events.

Even the settings were a nice mix between past and futuristic technology, much like what Bioshock did.

VIII biggest problem was that it followed VII, cause it was better then 7, but because most who played 7 expected a shitload more, it felt like a letdown, which it obviously wasnt

FFVIII was one of the only FF games I had the patience to finish. 80 hour game in 60 hours :P, that aside, it was one of my favorites. Had better twists in it then FFVII had, and a better.... cause for the story then some meterosexual with parental issues, which, let's face it, was what FFVII was about.
