The main reason for this musical episode was Jan Brady's error after all 6 chipped in together & purchased a Silver Platter, as a gift to Carol & Mike's anniversary. The price they were trying for was 1st place which is $100.00. Jan & the other 5 were trying to win first place & use $56.23 of it to pay for the engravemant Jan added. The pricing was 85 cents for each engraved letter & there was 63 letters.

$0.85 x 63 = $53.55 & then add 5% tax, it was $2.68.

Add them, $53.55 + $2.68 = $56.23.
