Or just dispose of them by throwing them bits of solder out in your back yard! Dude you know the amount of lead in those small bits of solder is pointless to be concerned about. Its not like you tossing out pounds of lead in one condensed area. If your so concerned about this then you better pitch a bitch about all those lead weights that fall off your cars wheels used for balancing your tires. Our roadways must be filled with lead poisoning LOL!
I have been in advertising for years - and produced/edited voiceovers for radio and tv for a time - when starting out.. You have a naturally "pleasing/commercial" voice and could make money doing voiceovers. You should look into it. Easy work - good money. The established VO artists we hired ( Doing v.o.'s for years and could charge this and get it ) - we were paying them $100-150 per commercial - and sometimes having them do 2-3 per day - so essentially they were making $300 or more an hour.
Couple of things. First, steel wool can contaminate the solder if small particles break off on the copper, making it harder to apply a patina finish. I recommend brass wool instead. Secondly, I use those end pieces when I'm tacking my next piece or when I need small amounts of solder for tinning. If the soldering tip is clean and well-tinned, you can pick up small amounts of molten solder with the tip, enough to use for a tac. Just use your work surface, not your fingers.
