i got it ,,, have this vid on a heads hud for all float plane pilots ,, it would come up when the plane has it's flaps down ,, or something to that effect
all aviation mistakes are dumb mistakes but us pilots will still make them. If or when you become a pilot you will notice flying is hard work and it fatigues and stresses the pilot. Try it sometime and you'll see how easy it is to forget.
@45thpaace Which is why I ALWAYS use checklists, EVERY time... now, if I would just do that when I'm setting up a damned CNC machine, perhaps I wouldn't crash the darn thing every now and then ;)
forgot that checklist. guy i know locally here loaned his cessna 421 out, back around 1998. Dude forgot wheels down and bellied it. $200,000 in damage down. Forgot that checklist.
Cessna no longer makes the 421 anymore but you can find them used for an average $350,000 to $400,000 for a 1970s model and maybe half that for a 60s model.
As someone who is always worried about putting the gear in the wrong position I"m interested in this system. I've not seen it before. However, I'm not sure how it could know you were landing on water based on the flap position. We use the same flap position for water or land (depending on available length, etc).
what he means is that as you extend flaps for landning the system will sense if you have gear up or down. If gear up and flaps are set for landning "Gear up for water landning" will sound.
Is it part of a voice annunciator or a buzzer? I've not flown a float plane with a voice annunciator but my own plane does have one. I'll have to look at the manual and see if there is a channel for such an announcement.
Well I'm glad you never make mistakes. Personally, I'm not going to say anything about people who put the gear in the wrong position until after I retire.
Well, A&P mistakes have caused stress in my life a few times Had an engine shutdown after a bad needle valve was declared "looks ok" rather than just replaced. $5 part costs thousands to R&R a second time.
i am a bit the other way.. maybe being new to it or just zealous about it, but i tend to ground a lot of aircraft if i am not satisfied with what i see. "looks ok" doesnt exist for me. either its serviceable IAW MM or its not. if i had worked on your plane in that instance, i would have made sure it right and done a few runups before letting it fly.
That's in no way funny... but I guess everyone forgets every now and then and it's understandable. Might put that in big red letters on the instrument panel though.
is that a cessna 182 ? lollz,, cessna caravan amphi has annuciator for GEAR UP FOR WATER LANDINNG in VOCALS ... dunnno is theres nything like that in the 182...

Some planes have an alarm when u set flaps for the water landing positions which says "gear up for water landing"
Eduprods 3 years ago
I've never flown a float plane that had a different flap setting for water landing vs land landing.
-robert, CFII Land And Sea
RobertGary1 3 years ago
What I meant is that the plane doesn't have a different configuration of flaps... It just reminds you just in case. ;)

there is a bright red light in the cockpit that illuminates with the words "gear down"
