It's highly likely that Game Freak is working on a remake of Gold/Silver for three reasons: FireRed/LeafGreen, difficulty to obtain some Pokémon (like GSC starters), and there is coding for uploading from Gold/Silver in Diamond and Pearl.

ok, that last part confuses me, because...well, it ONLY says kanto and hoenn (red/blue and ruby/saphire areas) can be uploaded to diamond and pearl ON diamond/pearl software itself. however, if this is true, I would like to know how you know this. because I WANT an official gold/silver remake SO BAD!

In Diamond and Pearl, there is coding to accept Pokémon from the Johto region, and there likely is coding to accept from more games.
