Well you have to be a bit more creative in thinking, who says we have to follow what they say in the magazines? Most of it over the past 10 or years has been so misleading. Two surrounds for the home bollocks! That will not satisfy everyone in the room. You’ll have dead spots where someone is going to get a crocked surround channel feel.
Its best to use multiples of smaller compact yet provide a reasonable frequency response in the bass/mid with fair high range and locate them fixed to the sidewalls and rear wall so that there is uniform defocused defused surround with monaural Matrix to discrete monaural and stereo surrounds where directional effects will be heard on ether side.
prob I have my subwoofer in a corner(not touching the walls). it's facing the same way as the main speakers, the frequency on both the sub and the reciever is set to 150Hz out of 200Hz, and the volume is mid-level. I run the tests and whenever it goes in the 40-70Hz range, there's mild rattling and buzz in the walls. Im trying hard so that the bass is still relatively powerful while this doesnt happen. should I move the sub further away from the walls or just change the frequency and/or volume?
Don't the surround sounds NEED to be facing you, at a 90 degree to 110 degree position from the seating area. Why would you want to face them towards the front wall?? I feel like this video has it BACKWARDS. The correct way to place the surround speakers (or what some people call the "rears") in a 5.1 system, is facing inward on either side of the couch. Please consult Dolbys website, they will tell you how to setup your speakers correctly.
Thanks, i was just thinking about my subwoofer. I got my monitor, two satelite speakers on my table, and the subwoofer is on a shelf under the table, but i can't really hear the bass that good, i hear it better when i'm standing up, or if i am far from the table. So thanks, i know a good position for my subwoofer now.. ;D
Any Home theater professional will tell you that the best formula for placing a subwoofer is to place the sub in the sweet spot of the room(where you sit ). Start the test tone and walk around the room. Where it sounds the best is where it should go. Keep it to the front of the room if you put the sub next to the sweet spot you will hear tones that you shouldn't hear and you will not be able to take full advantage of the sub.
@Xytos I agree, their book are retarded. I would go to sources like AVS forum,DTS or to Dolby Labs for accurate instruction on speaker placement and other Home theater needs. They know what they are talking about.
Placing them too near defeats the object of the surrounds as it is heard in the cinema, you shouldn’t be able to locate where the sound on the surrounds is coming from, rather than you just hear it as whole.
@EmpireLS56KW So you're saying all the hard work sound engineers go to, to place objects within a soundfield, is pointless? Beacause we shouldn't be able to tell where they are within that soundfield? If that IS the case then why do we have multiple surround sound formats?
I hear this around my friends the surrounds just don’t create an in-head sound. Move one way and the centre phantom collapses. Multiple small surrounds doesn’t cost half of what you get with two overpriced dipolar surround speakers that sill has limitations.
These video's are so cheesy! Plus, you'll want to create a the perfect triangle.sub woofer needs to be in a corner. please go to avsforums for better understanding on setting your home theater system.
My x12 surrounds cost around the same as pair of average cheap midrange dipolar surrounds, yet I have wider coverage in the room with dipolar you move outside of its defused sound field and you hear, you get the idea. With mine its the same at the back as its for the middle as its for the front. So, I choice any seat I want, without being distracted.

nicholastmhsw 11 months ago
@gemgem92 Yes, or you could get a 3 way splitter (red, yellow, green) but it won't be as good quality. Or try things such as easycap.
