  • i keep noticing mistakes all the way through, but its just attention to detail in the music. but nicely saved.

  • I love this piece well done!!!

  • I think it wouldn't sound so harsh if you used softer mallets. I'm hearing too much contact sound for my liking and it kind of ruins the beauty of the piece, IMHO.

  • i think he used hard mallets cuz it's loud there and he won't be able to record it without the mallets.5 stars

  • @grtg1231

yeah for real it was great but you sped up a lot in some places and the first broken part is very fast.... it's only 66 bpm

  • awesome dude

  • beginning is too fast. you're missing out all the musical pauses. this is not an etude. why the rush?

  • If u used yarn mallets, it would sound so much better and beautiful

  • well this piece is a 3 mallet piece so he didn't do anything wrong.... and how can 3 mess up your grip or make it harder to learn 4? it's just like 2 and 4 ... in one hand you're playing single and the other double... lol if one of his hands is learning dbl then i think he's a smart enough guy to make it happen on the other...

    just a thought....

  • mitchell peters wrote this for 3 mallets

  • It is written as a 3 mallet solo though... you have to play as written, and no it shouldn't mess up your grip... please explain to me HOW that would mess up your grip.

  • @Mario12874

    no you fail

this piece was meant to transition in to 4 mallets. it smooths out the kinks and tricks of 4 mallets. btw it'd be impossible to play with 2 and extremely dumb to play it with 4

  • umm... its "could" and ya it is pritty good

  • omg stop criticisin...its better than most of u cood do! spesh railers60, ur just bein rude.

  • a girl in my school , is accually amazing at all percussion but really u done this very good , she makes it memorizing ,, try slowing down , softer mallets and more expression with dynamics :)

  • I agree that the mallets are too hard. . .however, very nicely done

  • i don't think the mallets are too hard or that there's any lack of dynamics in the performance. i think the recording levels were too high. you can hear the clipping when he gets loud.

  • weird grip

  • you are going too fast, i have to admit. i'm 14 and all my friends loved this song. but use softer mallets, it's too harsh.

  • softer mallets! yes.

  • did u forget to read the part where it says bpm=66??

  • no big deal using burton on marimba, its easier than just regular cross but the left hand thumb of burton doesnt go over the mallet, you tend to use the right hand of burton in ur left which doesnt hurt but might get u harassed

also, chill out dude ur VERY tense and this usually leads to tendonitus

  • and use softer mallets, this is a sad piece. Peters was going through a divorce with his wife when he wrote this. You're making it sound like he was beating her...make it sad not horrific thanks.

  • Too fast and no dynamics...

  • The first triplet section was way to fast. Where are the dymnamics? You hardly did any. You missed some notes also, so i guess its not that easy.

  • not bad... but i think ur holding the stix wrong. ur thumb should b wrapped around th stick. not over it. that way u can move ur index finger and be able to reach really far. but ur pretty good.

  • 4) You could have longer and more emphasized pauses at the breath markings in the first part between progressions.

    5) You should move more! It makes it much more interesting to watch if you put some movement and feeling into it.

Yeah I'm not sure if you have the sheet music for it or not, but grabbing a copy would be very valuable for improving the performance. Besides those points, well done and good luck!

  • Yeah it was ok I guess.

Very different to the way I'm used to playing it

    1) I reckon it could be a bit slower up until the 4/4 for greater effect.

    2) There are some misunderstandings in the rhythm of some parts of the melody in the 4/4 section.

    3) There should be greater contrasts in dynamics - a lot of dynamic contrast and emphasis has been put onto the sheet music of Teardrops.

  • Burton, traditional, and stevens all have pros and cons, but work on all instruments

don't roll so fast, it's unnecessary

Don't do yellow or Rain Dance, they're lame. Two Pieces for Marimba by Houliff would be good.

Get Nancy Zeltsman's and Giff Howarth's books that will get you doing 4 mallets and will introduce all the stroke types while providing great etudes and solos to work on.

Stay away from Peters, he writes really trite music

  • hmmmmmm....burton grip for marimba?? usually for vibes no?

  • Wow, this is different than the one that I play. The ending is different. Interesting. Good job on it though, I'll try to post one of me playing the one I have.

  • Haha the problem is that I still can't seem to find either of the scores in shops or library. Looks like I'll have to order them.

  • I wouldn't suggest Yellow After the Rain, its for kids.

It depends on what your looking for, and if your performing for a solo & ensemble get together or not.

If you are, then I'd suggest Rain Dance.

    Learn Yellow on the side.

  • Judges at State don't want to hear Yellow After the Rain or Rain Dance. EVERYONE plays those two peices. Give them something interesting. I suggest anything by Keiko Abe; even her two mallet Prism is difficult, so don't get wrapped up in the fact that it's only two mallets. Stout's Two Mexican Dances is really great too.

  • Do you think you could play using 4 hammers?

  • Umm... if I practice! XD

  • By now I've roughly gotten used to it... but with two sticks on right hand... somehow it's a lot easier with left hand for me, which is strange since my right hand is my main hand. I'll try to look for it, thanks.

  • Great job. Don't worry, after a few months you get used to playing like that. If you want another good solo from Mitchell Peters, try Yellow After the Rain.
