The economy was a result of way too much debt in the consumer, corporate and government sector in the US as well as in many major European and middle eastern countries. It was not something that one can attribute to one political party of the other.
@Streetmastaalex Ron Paul has been warning the people and congress about this predicament we are now in. He knows the only way to get us out is to downsize government. More and more people are listening because he makes sense and people have enough common sense to know we can't live with debt forever and to keep adding to it is it hurting our economy and every citizen.

Recessions last on average between 11 months. Because of Bush Obama big spending and government intervention this recession has lasted 3 years and counting.

Obama too office in January 2009 . . . any way you slice it, GDP growth is better in the last 6 or 7 quarters than either the first year Obama was in office or the last year Bush was in office.
My post also mentions job creation. I'm not able to locate the info on job creation (was in a recent economist article).

He pushed for health savings accounts there (Ron Paul supports health savings accounts) and vetoed tons of liberal legislation. He governed pro-life and received an award from Massachusetts Citizens for Life. He also fought against gay marriage.

The problem with Bush was that he let the Democrats talk him out of reforming the mortgage industry back in 2005 - in fact Obama even cast a deciding vote to block reform from getting out of committee back then.

On many measures, the US economy is in better shape than when Obama took office including trends on growth and job creation. I'd urge everyone to inform themselves when they see ads like these . . . there will no doubt be similar ads from other politicians including the Obama campaign. Not always clear or truthful.

@bill3979 Bush certainly didn't help the economy. The economy was bad when Obama took over. So one would think the only way to go is up. Wrong. It takes a special kind of failure to make a bad economy worse. We can't afford 4 mote years of Obamas failure. I think Romney is far from perfect but he understands the economy and how to create jobs.

@goduke282 Funny, Romney himself was quoted today as saying Obama didn;t make the recession worse, backtracking on what he'd said previously.And Romney's 2008 stimulus plan in Mass. resembled Obama's. Look it up.

@2012Romney I just thought it was a little misleading to start the job loss figures with 2009 and ignore what happened 2000-2008, as if no jobs were lost. . How was Bush held accountable? He got elected twice by fools.
