Nadlemnan is an obstinate fool who simply does not understand the difference between alcohol and narcotics- including pot. Alcohol is legally permitted under the assumption that it is consumed BELOW THE LEVEL OF INTOXICATION. That is not how narcotics are used. Although a dangerous drug itself, if alcohol were consumed in the same way people use narcotics it would be just as illegal. Nadelmann is going about this in the wrong way. Legalization will create a nightmare of drug use increase.
@rockintetster Marijuana is not a narcotic, opioids are narcotics. re: alcohol, you said that it is only permitted if you don't get intoxicated. You're claiming its illegal to get drunk?
Re: "if alcohol were consumed"... listen to yourself man. Think before you speak. Have you ever even picked up a book on the history of prohibition?
You sound like a very knowledgeable individual, in a perfect position to be criticising an extremely learned and widely respected person like Ethan Nadelmann.
inthe 1800s opium was legal and the majority of the population was not strung out on it this whole arguement of more people getting high because it is legal is absurd
@Nataraja13 Are you kidding? Do you know how the television industry works? The journalist agrees with Nadelmann ffs! Notice how he gave Nadelmann the vast majority of the time? He has to ask devils advocate questions, he's a journalist, not an entertainer like Glenn Beck or Keith Olbermann... bringing up legalisation and giving the majority of air time to someone against prohibition would have been even more difficult then (this would have been early 90s) than it is now.
@Nataraja13 Or do you need to be told what to think? Instead of watching news that really has a patina or impartiality and fairness, do you need to watch a channel like MSNBC or Fox News that totally agrees with your political views? *facepalm* No wonder you ended up with shit like Fox News and MSNBC in the first place.
Cool. I must have been pissed off when I wrote that. The interviewer does a good job here and certainly is a better journalist that the Fox News etc. garbage. cheers.
@Nataraja13 NP. Richard Carlton was a great journalist (unfortunately has passed away now). He was definitely anti-prohibition, and it would have been his idea to bring this on.
@evanj21 This is interesting because it is one of the fears that prohibition advocates have. The thing is that you and a small minority would be the only ones growing it because others would rather just buy it at the liquor store, etc. I think this is the case because I make homemade wine and it is a LOT of work. Sometimes I'd rather just go to the store and buy it. Anyone can make wine and beer at home but the vast majority just buy it. Just my two cents :)
That one guy was blatantly cherry-picking with the Muslim and Chinese cultures. In the US, there were virtually no drug laws until about 1913, when heroin and cocaine were made illegal. Before then, a child could go into a drugstore and buy heroin or cocaine. And our society did GREAT.
And you know what? Kids DIDN'T do heroin or cocaine (aside from their normal functions as cough or pain medicine)...BUT THEY ARE NOW.
I support Ethan's cause 100% but I'd like to see the complete (unedited) copy of this video. Is it publicly available.

America's not very good at winning wars...
- World War II (nuking Japan shouldn't be considered a victory but rather a terrible tragedy)
- Vietnam
- Cuba
- War on "Terror"
- Afghanistan
- Iraq
- Drug War

The war on Drugs is a failing cause. Just like the 'War on Terror'.
Drug dealers don't ask for I.D.
The most revolutionary ideas, are the ones that are the most controversial.
It's time for people to wake up, educate themselves and make the change.

"I dont know any social heroine users"
because they are in the closet lady!
Drug users are so dehumanized.. that they are not willing to talk to YOU about it!
The addicts are normally loud about it.. so they appear to be more plentiful
imo
