I think the alt and jho weapon do more damage then the cannon since you can attack faster then firing the cannon, thats how me and my friends do it and we finish at around 22 min or so.

@RandomMajin If you do this quest as a low rank hunter, it stops before the final part of the battle, and he also doesn't attack the ship from the side, just from the front. I just did it and holy shit it was epic.

it was super hard and i got disconnected 3/4s of the way through

second time, same guy died 3 times

I reach to that part, in my urgent quest, using mostly cannons, even at middle/long range some shot do reach the monster very little ballista, but we forgot to take out the weak areas on the back of the monster, we didnt used much the binder, and it destroyed our ship, probably that was our mistake that time

You can carve in front of his arm and his face. The area in front of his arm is the same as behind.
