Clay actually won! The phone lines on his end were so backed up they got cut off and it wasn't revealed till many years later that Clay led the voting every single week he was on the show, INCLUDING THE FINALE! It was a glitch in the system!! they now have more phone lines.. probably somewhat due to this. Clay Aiken was the 2nd American Idol!

I am a big country music fan, so I was surprised how much I liked this version. Clay is such a fantasic singer! Simon's comment about Clay is broadway but not a recording artist is ridiculous.

Its too bad they didn't make a CD of all the songs he sang on AI. He is about the only person that picks a great song every time. I never get tired of listening to him sing!!!

Simon never did get it,that Clay was not only unique, but a beautiful singer and man, but one that could sell CDs and have some of the best tours of any artist. His shows are never the same since he feeds off the audiances and makes for great times. Hope he tours soon. Really miss him.
