  • her lips her clothes her jewelry her face..no perversion or disrespect but i makke love to her..as she makes love to those songs...r.i.p. Ms. Hyman

  • Listen to her words. If she would have met her Mr. Right, if that man would have been true to her, and made her feel SAFE, she would have survived it all.

  • I love her hands. they are elegant and tell just how tall she is. She was a beautiful Black Woman that makes me proud of my race. I can only have her albums in my house and be very very content! The answer Girl, is YOU...RIP my soul sister.

  • @arlenerogerswilhite yeah phyllis had some big hands lol I would hate to see her slap somebody lol put somebody in a coma lol jk

  • @spirit69warrior hahahaha that's funny. Thanks for the feedback!

  • @arlenerogerswilhite sure lol np

  • @spirit69warrior We all have something about us other people can point out! She was

a Beautiful Woman with a Mazing Voice!!

  • she has a soothing voice, and such a knowing spirit, it really puts me at ease... she was so eloquent and so able to communicate such complex emotions, I swear I feel soo connected to her and Aaliyah in the same way!!

  • RIP baby

  • very real. very human. very smart woman. comfortable with herself, elegant, conversant. To get a natural gift of a voice like hers with no unblical cord to music is a gift from God. I'm so glad she found that gift and shared it with us, truly her voice and the great songs she sang with it still touch the heart of and soul of us and that magic will be around always.

  • What a special gift from God!!!!! She is truely missed - R.I.P. Ms. Hyman.

  • She was very special. Her voice was haunting, especially "living all alone". Phyllis seemed discontent and disenchanted with what she though was fame and life. Wise and cunning but alone.

  • the interviewer is terrible . Is she still working

  • @wakeupanddo I agree! I think it sounds like Jackie Reed. She does radio and reality shows now. lol

  • Phyllis had tremendous intellect in addition to being a musical genius. Black women during her era and before were trying to deconstruct the myths about black women ( over sexed welfare mothers, ignorant, lots of babies daddies.). In our current society we have internalized these stereotypes so much that they have become reality for many women.

  • She's real.

  • I had the opportunity to photograph Ms. Hyman in Oakland @Jeffery's. She was like the 50 foot woman!! Tall, beautiful, statuesque, and took no shit. She loved to eat but best of all the girl could sing her ass off and was fabulous!!

    RIP Soul Sistah!!

She wore her hats like a crown!! Check out her interview on You Tube.

  • I realy realy like Miss PHYLLIS it is so sad she took her life and im sad because i wanted to meet her if i were old enough i may have stoped her but i was a little girl sruggling with BIPOLAR DISORDER my self so I no what it is like to want to take your life but anyway enough about me phyllis is the bomb she could be my mom any day to bad to sad now she is gone but i will always keep her in my heart

  • really, really. spell check is key dear.

  • I applaud Phyllis for sitting through this interview as long as it was. Too many questions asked in my opinion.

  • shes tweaking....

  • so beautiful ,so talented, blessed w/ a great sense of style and a musical gift from God, fame ,fortune, and adoring fans....

yet it wasn't enough...i'm glad to got to see her perform live, before her passing, i listen to her music still from time 2 time..

and still feel a deep sadness....

  • BI-POLAR DISORDER. Chemical imbalance in the brain. Sometimes your HIGH and sometimes youre LOW. And, there's not a lot you can do about it until you get some treatment and counseling. It was not her fault. It was not because she was lonely although it probably triggered episodes. But bi-polar disorder is a disease unto itself.

  • What's the lesson here. Embrace your God given talent: we are all given something.

Finding the love within is a daily challenge for all of us.

OUR FALLEN ANGEL --- AT PEACE AT LAST.

  • Why not love ourselves. We love others and they arent flawless. So, why not love our own flawless selves. We're just another traveler on the road to glory

  • So true, but much easier said than done. We have so many shadow beliefs and messages given by our parents, family and community.

Self love is a continuous process. Being in the spotlight can make it even more difficult.

  • Poor baby. I cant believe she didnt have someone to have and to hold.

  • It is funny, Phyllis knows this interviewer is weak because she "wides" her eyes while waiting for comments in a "waiting" way. Phyllis is amazing but she played games in interviews too. I believe she was really difficult to deal with but I love her music, enough said. You find love in life if you give it. When you do not, it does not find you. Maybe Phyllis just could not give it.

The real meaning and interest in this interview is Phyllis's physical responses. Classic Diva, love it.

  • @dv8guyboston amateur non-fan interviewer-NOT a journalist!

  • @dv8guyboston Really? I just thought she was tweaking. I'm not trying to be funny, that's just what I thought.

  • @dv8guyboston To me, it seems the interviewer wasn't completly listening because there were obvious follow-up questions that weren't asked. But I know from having done interviews like this you sometimes want to keep it tight and keept it moving so your mind is a bit more focused on that. Phyllis was great however in giving full complete answers to some yes or no questions. The greats are typically like that, they know how to give a good interview even if the interviewer is "weak".

  • @dv8guyboston It's hard for me to accept, she was always good to me, but that "eye widening" is coke.

  • @dv8guyboston I don't think Phyllis was aware of her eyes widening like that.. I'm pretty sure that that was an effect of her depression... If you look at the way they move it's almost involuntary and brings tears to my soul because she is crying out.

  • omg this interviewer sux so bad!! i hope she realizes now who she was talking 2 cuz obviously she didnt get it back then

  • she is incredible black woman....love her

  • No one but God above could bless someone with a voice like PH.

So wish she could have connected with the God within and in turn realized that God loved her and she was indeed worthy.

  • i love phyillis she was beautiful and talented, its a pity the talent didnt rub off on the person interviewing her, she is crap

  • I love her voice

  • @ 5:06

The interviewer really gets under Phyllis' skin. LOL. That flat "OK" sounded so condescending and indifferent.

Phyllis is sooo articulate. I can really listen to her speak all day.

  • @CuntyonMars The interviewer sux. She's just try'na read the questions off the paper. She could care less. She's there for a check.

  • Maybe she's a little intimidated. You know Phyllis wasnt easy. If you tripped, she tell you _ss off in a minute.

  • lol lol lol lol

  • I am a cancer male and I understand how she felt! We are very loving people I just wish knew how to cope....it looks like she was on something during this interview as it looks like she was trying to stay alert! RIP babes.

  • The interviewer sucks

  • Thanks for this interview .

Phyllis says she wanted to be a business woman. Rich, powerful, single. Often women in this way are called the "b" word. They are kinda treated in a standoffish way. At the same time she was lonely though this was her aspiration. Seems the loneliness took a toll after all. She is goone tooooo soon.

  • Cancerian women love HARD... I have the crab on the ASC...I understand, Phylis...love your work..R.I.P.

  • Your a cancer too. I always get excited when I see other cancers, lol.

  • She's amazing! What's strange is that she doesn't come from a typical musical upbringing.

  • love the quality of this old interview

  • Yall wont beleive what I just found I was on wikipedia doing a search for the name phyllis in greek mythology. and the lady phyllis committs suicide by hanging herself on a tree . wow !

  • RIP Ms. Hyman

  • lmao off shoulder pad....

  • Saddened by the fact that she lost all faith in men/love.

  • Pure Elegance!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where is Phyllis? I just see shoulder pads talking....I love you Phyllis!

  • LMAO I noticed her shoulder pads just now

  • go ahead now phyllis :)

  • She was sooo damn gorgeous and was one hell of a singer.

  • I am so pleased and happy that she gave dedication to Minnie Riperton.....Their both my favorite singers

  • I cant wait to see phyllis one day even if it means I have to die early

  • look at how she does her eyes at 1:45 damn thats hot, it feels like even though she's gone that her eyes are still alive

  • Her speaking voice sounds much like Toni Braxtons speaking voice, who I really like

  • Toni & Phyllis are my two favorties ever I talk about them both to anyone whole will listen everyday and in every place LOL but they don't sound anything alike babe sorry!

  • you know whats stranges sometimes toni looks like phyllis with those eyes

  • lmao! I don't think she liked that interviewer! See Phyllis was just so damn real...and this chic interviewing her is plastic! There's no connection, no warmth. I don't feel any respect coming from the person who conducted this prized sitdown with this brillant star!

  • That's not true she was the same interviewer that did the first Ebony Jet interview in 1987 and they were fine together laughing and having fun you should read Phyllis's book called "The Strength Of A Woman" because it says at this date/time in her life she had just gotten over a sucide try so she was not well!

  • Seeing is believing and her body language says so much more than words in a book about her. Think on it.

When you get older ifusuc... you'll know how to pick on these kinds of things, especially when it comes to women!

  • I have to admit that the interviewer does sound a bit cold and seems not to be at all reflective...she seems to just be doing the interview by rote...I really wished that she showed more warmth...would have made for a better interview.

  • Thanks for the honest comment rassledassle82. Unfortunately, there is one user on this thread that has begun a immature war with words in regards to the comments I made. I appreciate your candid truth. Have a Blessed Day.

  • I'm sorry...people can be soooo immature! It's ridiculous that we can't all have our OWN opinions of situations...all you can do is knock the dust off your feet and keep on steppin - good luck :-)

  • I don't like the interviewer either. She was just there to get a check and didn't cherish the icon she was interviewing

  • Its about time that this interview was posted here. Much better quality. I miss my girl!

  • I wonder if there is any interviews of her 4rm da 70s..I would love 2 see how she acted wen she was younger and b4 the whole living all alone era.

  • Phyllis Hyman's music is very very special. No one sounds like her these days. It was very unique.

  • Miss Hyman was truly a talented singer with alot of personal issues. I am glad the music she left with us lives forever.

I am so glad to have most of her published work in my music collection.

LONG LIVE THE MUSICAL LEGACY OF PHYLLIS HYMAN!

  • i love her wit she was very charming.

    SAYS DA SOPRANO

  • I miss you Phyllis!

You were in a class all by yourself.

  • "I can go for the Kids & The Husband Today!" (Quote Phyllis). Phyllis really wanted a simple life with the love of one Man and the love of her children. Dang, that hurt me when I heard that!

  • I know how she feels

  • Phyllis was a Cancer female, and that's how we are! When we find the right man we are very faithful, but we have a real trust issue!!

  • Thanks Ebony-Jet for putting up pt. 2 of my Favorite Singer!!!! You guys are Great! Thanks for keeping Black Entertainment Alive!!!!
