and who ever says maryland isnt country ohh honey it is!!! actually every state has country !! look for it!!!!!!!!! maybe not towns or citys! but states! thank god im a country gurl!!!!! Let's go O's
After 36 years, it appears as if the city's name will make a return to the Orioles' road uniforms.
The Sun has learned that the Orioles are in the process of filing the required paperwork with Major League Baseball to add "Baltimore" to their road jerseys, replacing the nickname of the club that has adorned the away uniforms since 1973, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The uniform change would go into effect for the 2009 season.
Somewhere there should be footage of the time that John Denver attended the O's game and lead the song from the roof of the dugout. I know it exists but it may not be online.
I saw a picture in the Columbus Dispatch (Ohio) of John Denver dancing on top of the O's dugout! They used to play this at Tiger Stadium in Detoit til they found out John was an O's fan! LOL
Not sure really. The tradition started in the 80s and has continued on since.
Baltimore certainly is NOT country, which makes for a nice ironic effect. But MD has some rural spots though. And a lot of fans from rural parts of VA come up to see games (probably less now). Either way, I dig it.
the tradition started when the old Memorial Stadium was located in the blue collar white area of baltimore city. It was basically your redneck part of Baltimore. Most of the fans had a lot of country in them. Its all part of the "hun" culture which barely exists anymore in the city, but can be seen in certain neighborhoods such as Hampden, Essex, and Highlandtown
Apparently, in the 70's some guy in the Yankees staff called the O's a ton of "country boys", so now they play this song every 7th inning stretch. Enjoy it every time.

Ha...it's funny to see all these Red Sox fans standing around wondering "What's up with this?"
As an O's fan I stand around at Fenway Park during the stretch and always say to myself "Where the hell is my John Denver?!"
