The "charts" do bear that claim out. In January 1981 the Fed Funds rate target was 19 to 20%. That's enormous and approaches loan shark rates. The Fed raised and lowered their target throughout that year creating a large amount of uncertainty. In 1982 they lowered the target by at least 0.5% each time they met (8 times that year) and unemployment peaked in December 1982.
This recession was not caused by tight monetary policy and we are at the 0 bound so it is ineffective at this point.

Certainly, we're about at zero. My point is that lowering interest rates, even to a ultralow level, isn't a magic bullet.

@TheRLKing You realize that the only time spending money to make money works if your investing and selling.... hes spending craploads of money and putting us in an economic crisis.. heres an example.. when your overdue on your credit card you dont get back into a good balance by spending more!!! You payback the debt that you owe!! And also I see your point where ppl have the choice to do what they want.. but I do not think thats right because murder isnt right... and abortion is murder sooo..

@TripleGrandMusic Then, by all means, explain what you would have us do. How would you have handled the collapsing banks? How would you pay back our debt to China? Remember, you're required to stick with Bush tax cuts for your first 2 years and you're funding 2 wars you're stuck with.
Also, I would rather have a woman not have a child than have a child and either A) Neglect and mistreat her child because she didn't want it, B) Put a child in an orphanage or C) Have it be homeless.

Same with bush!! Theyre spending WAY TOO MUCH MONEY!! If ppl would cut spending wed actually get somewhere!

@TripleGrandMusic The problem is that Obama was handed a system where he had no choice but to spend money. Trust me, I used to think a lot like you when I was 14. I'm hoping that one you'll at least understand why he can't. The government isn't like a person who has to always pay back what they spend. The government's first priority is making sure that it's people are taken care of, that's what he's spending money towards.
Also, again, I don't necessarily support abortion, I support choice.

Cuz i dont think Bush passed a crappy healthcare bill, stupid 787 billion stimulus with SPENDING!!! and you realize that Obama had a democratic majority his first 2 years which gives him the ability unpass and repeal all bushs crappy bills.. ... you cant keep blaming Bush.. that was almost 3 years ago!!!
