  • I have 1 cat, 2 goldfish, lots of tropical fish, 2 budgies, I used to have a hamster before it died in his sleep just before Christmas, and I will soon be adopting a cockatoo ( cockatiel ).

  • Oops they aren't all my pets I just accidently said send when I was typing 1 cat lol sorry.

  • I will be adopting a cockatoo very soon because it needs a home but I'm going to have a look at him first and the cage( but I will probably let it loose in my house anyway) . I am an animal lover. The main reason I have them is because I HATE seeing them in tight awkward hot cages. Yes they are bought buy me but that's the only way to get them out of that place. These are the animals , birds, fish that I have: 1 cat,

  • I feel so sorry for you.

  • Vet bills? HA! I paid $5000.00 for Maggie and have to this day, invested $4000.00 MORE in vet bills. Olivers illness, death and necropsy set me back over a grand more. I ate every DIME of those costs and would do it again!!

  • why did u wait 4 days after you received them to take the bird to a vet? they both should've been taken to a vet the first day they arrived!

  • hmmm hope you learned a lesson. Not too smart

  • This is why you RESCUE birds, what the hell is trading? Would you "trade" your kids? This is TERRIBLE. DO NOT BUY OR TRADE BIRDS!!!!!!

    STOP BREEDING AND BUYING.

  • scubaahood: i agree, but most breeding birds aren't tame so they probably weren't her kids. breeders let these beautiful birds become wild so they'll produce clutches of eggs for sale for a profit. it's all about money for most breeders.

  • Thanks for posting this to warn others. I didn't know about this kind of trading. =( But someone I know of was telling me how she got gyped by someone wanting a "deposit" and payment for a bird she didn't get.

  • Did you ever find out what happened to the original bird that you sent as a trade? It was so kind of you to get the bird that was sick the immediate health care attention it so deserved. I am sorry for the loss. Did you ever hear anything from the scum that made this trade with you?

  • This is why I would only ever rescue an animal, and never ever buy one.

  • Those are some VERY cheap vet bills. If you saw mine, you'd be way more than that. Did you at least get the bird you shipped out back? I'd be so worried about him.

  • I never got the chance to ship back. The day after I brought the poor little "girl" to the vet, she died (in a blanket in my arms), so I had to take her poor lifeless body "back" to the vet to get a full necropsy&histo done to make sure it was not death by a communible disease. Thankfulyy it wasn't she was clear, BUT, had been suffereing from a lung infection left untreated for months and months and months. I had her for 5 days, not even a week... before she died while being treated. So so sad.

  • thats horable. im sorry for your loss..stupid people/breeders. wow..i cant say how sorry i am . it hurts me to see that bird floopin around like that not able to perch..aww..sad to think that u had to go threw all that to learn not to get them shipped ever again. im so sorry.

  • are they really that small?

  • yup, they are "lessers" the smaller one is a subspecies of the lesser, and it is even smaller.

  • thats so sad I never ship birds I started breeding birds about 2 years ago. I like to see the people who they are going too and if they smoke in there home they don't get the bird

  • Denisefeathers: so smoking in the home is your only concern? How 'bout if they get drunk & then throw birds up against the basement wall, do they still get one? Or feed them nothing but sunflower seeds & Cheerios? Or keep them in a small cage filled with a month's worth of feces? Do you follow-up with your "merchandise" a month..or year after you sell "it" to make sure they're being taken care of properly or if they're even still alive? Please quit breeding, like Nito962 did. Stop the cycle. TY.

  • no I do check up on my birds and see what kind of pet owners they are smoking is just one of the many things I consider.I sold two of my lovebirds to another bird breeder and I have been in her home many times.

  • the breeder i got my congo grey and grand electus "female" from always prefers to check on the bird after the first few weeks, and then again later, and if there are problems, she helps correct them. she just took care of them for a month while i was on vacation. "a year after i bought the birds". one of my neighbors bought a macaw online and it was a mess. it was plucked, underweight, aggresive, screamed constantly and would not come out it's cage. and to think, i almost bought a grey online.

  • Scarletboa: please do NOT feed the breeders' pockets! There's so many beautiful birds out there, sitting in rescues, that need a loving & caring home, such as your own. Whether you buy one online or right from the breeders directly, once your bird leaves their business, they'll just "replace" it by breeding another..& another..& eventually they get neglected or abused by the people they rely on for their care. The circle is vicious - why perpetuate it? Don't buy, don't breed, ADOPT!

  • she breeds birds as sort of a side job. she has a few pet birds herself and she only takes care of less than a dozen birds at a time. she makes sure that each bird gets individual attention and she makes a special blend of legumes, corn, peas and other healthy vegies. we stop by every couple of months to get our birds checked by her and she shows us the birds she's raising and selling. she isn't one of the breeders that has hundreds of deprived parrots. if i get another bird it will be rescued

  • denisesfeather-smoking is probably one of the least worries when it comes to adopting out birds. Living/dieing from neglect/abuse is at the top of the list. Check out the papers to see how many birds people are getting rid of cuz they are too much of a problem..

  • That is so sad what happened.. :< I'm really sorry for the loss of the bird, I really hope this person selling these birds gets in jail for doing it improperly.

  • And you want to breed more, so more people can treat these birds the way the previous people did? Sigh

  • June 5th 2008 I am not breeding any birds any more. I have given all of my breeding birds to my friend who still breeds, and now only have my compaion birds, 1 umbrella Cockatoo, 1 Senegal parrot and 1 Bourke parakeet. I just can not deal with all the emotional issues of dealing with people who treat them like crap and feel birds do not deserve vet care etc. I have not been breeding for 4 months now.

  • Most excellent! Good for you! Thank you! Most people will never understand the level of commitment these birds REALLY take AND for DECADES; until it's too late and then they wind up sent off to a rescue, re-homed a 100 times, neglected, abused .. or dead. I wish you many years of good luck and happiness w/ your companions! THANK YOU! Now work on your friend! :-)

  • Yes, I found that my 3 year old Umbrella was not getting the attention he needed because I was always so busy handfeeding babies, cleaning tons of cages, or doing other bird things. He even began to chew his flight and tail feathers. Now that I have just my 3 companion birds, he is stopping the feather chewing and is much happier because he gets so much more freedom and snuggle time. My U2 is infact, a rescued bird from a shelter. He was my first big bird and is precious to me.

  • NITO962 Thank you for not breeding any more.. Help educate others about how hard it is to take care of these magnificent creatures, that they deserve a good life and are not throw aways when taking care of them gets hard... Plus help other future birds by talking to other breeders and maybe you all can join in to help save the birds that currently need homes and love.

  • One of my friends is also getting out of breeding so she can enjoy her companions and because she can't deal with the reprocussions of breeding such deliquet creatures. Most people do not listen when you try to talk to them, I know, cause I never listened. I had to find out for myself. I love birds like crazy, but I won't breed them anymore now, and I was thinking of fostering birds in need and finding them forever homes (once I move to my new house and build a big bird playroom and board area)

  • Another life sadly lost to the pet bird trade. Made me ill to watch your vid. Sure glad you got "replacement birds". What's wrong with this picture???

    Don't BUY, DON'T BREED (listening nito962?), Adopt!

  • ive tried to adopt parrots its like they dont want to give them to you they want you to go to seminars and classes like they dont belive i can take care of a bird it is so much easier to just buy one those parrot rescues are ridiculas

  • You know it's sad but there is some truth to this, I had experience in the field of avian health care and owned many parrots myself, I wanted to adopt an african grey from a local rescue I went through a year of jumping through hoops for that rescue, went to all their classes, attended all their functions, sponsored the bird I so dearly fell in love with, and in the end they gave it to someone else who had also sponsored it for the same price, but it was purely on personal choice.

  • you are a joke

  • IM sorry for your loss. Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous people in the parrot trade. For anyone considering a parrot as a pet, please dont buy...adopt from your local rescue

  • looks like a wild cuaght bird

they glued the branch he landed on it and they caught him

they dont carfally remove the birds from the branches they rip them off ive seen acockatoo that was cuaght like that and lost 2 toes cos they got rippped off this truly makes me sad

  • That sure is what it looks like doesn't it? I was thinking along the same lines. This bird also had an extreme resperitory infection which apparently had been left for a long time with no veterinary care, and an inactive uterus and overies and irregular heart. After this dealing I encountered, I have not, nor will I ever, have birds shipped again.

  • The one loks like a baby :( Im sorry about your experience. I'd contact an attorney... :(

  • It looks like a baby but it was not. She was a "timmy" lesser sulphur crested too, which are smaller even then the lessers. There was no contract involved so I'd be wasting my time. unfortunatly :(

  • I'f you had a title like"Bird Delivery: Gone Bad" You would have reached more people i think. I want all bird people to see this and realize the pain you went though so history dosent repeat itself.-Robert

  • shipping any kind of animal is horrible..most animals are kept in bad conditions...i work in a pet store (which will remain nameless), but when our animals are shipped, half or more arrive sick, of course we provide vet care and make sure they are well before selling but it just goes to show that shipping is NOT appropriate for any animal.

  • Wow, thats terrible! I thought i got the stick. We had two blue quakers shipped from AZ to MO. They were 'proven' DNA'ed (yes had papers). Two years went by HEAVY heavy breeding and no eggs. We Redna'ed its two boys! never did have the money to buy females. Sorry for your sad story :(

  • Thanks, yes it is a sad thing to deal with. Wow, sorry to hear you ended up with 2 males even with papers. I am also looking for a blue female quaker lol, to pair with my pallid male.

  • aw, that is so sad! I'm sorry you had to go throuh that.

  • did you have a contract something in writting cause i would sue the person you traded with. im sorry that happen to you

  • no unfortunatly I did not have a contract. I made the grave error in "trusting" the person I was dealing with. Since then the roblem has been dealt with and I am being sent replacement birds, but sadly, the poor bird is the one who suffered from this the most.

shipping birds truly is a scary thing.

  • well im sorry for what happened and hope your next birds are ship right and nothing happens like that again

  • thank you

  • did that bird just droped dead?=

  • no, she was just really weak. I brought her to the vet and she died 2 days later unfortunatly.

  • So sad for the bird and you!! It is very sad what some people will do for a buck!! It makes us all look bad!!

  • yes it is. I am just glad all transmittable diseases were tested negative, as it was a huge scare for me. Broke my heart to see the poor lil girl go though.

  • i feel so sorry for you

  • wow? surely thats breaking the law for selling u bad birds? mabye u should try and get money from the place they sold u it.. and next time goto a propor pet shop :/ and sorry for ure lil birdies :( R.I.P

  • well, I am seeking legal adive on the matter to see what I can do about it. I do not buy from pet shops neither, as I can not track down where the birds came from properly. Thank you for your condolences, that is kind of you. My vet said the poor had been sick for a long time left untreated. How could anyone not notice something was wrong, I notices as soon as I got them home.

  • so so very wrong poor bird

  • wonderful isn't it. Hope you read the story too. I am so upset.

  • Oh i did read the story that is why i said it was so wrong .

  • thank you. I am letting people know so hopefully no one else has to go through this also :(

  • This is good for people to se i understand what your doing.
