I can't be judgmental of Ruffa simply because I don't know her at all. However, she miss informed the public by saying that 98% of filipinos speak English. That is totally wrong. As of March of 2006 survey, 65% adult filipinos understood written and spoken English. Please remember one can't speak what one can't understand. Secondly, a well meaning advice can't be open ended...e.g. "Beauty with a purpose & beauty with a brain". Was that advice leading to commit sin or to glorify God?

Ipagmalaki mo ang wikang Tagalog. Mas expressive ka sa wikang Tagalog. Do something that no other Filipina delegate has ever done before - get an interpreter. There is no shame in that. Say a couple of lines in English to impress the judges at the end. Go and win the actual title for the Philippines. Stay true to yourself.

And when I say accent..I mean that none of you can come near the Rapid American Speech &/or British accent for that matter. Just be who she is. Answer the question to the language she's comfortable. Previous Latin American Ms. Universe got interpreter too yet they won. Putting the words into the judges mouth will not help. If there is a will, there is a way. It's up to Janina, her handler & the Bb. Pilipinas Org. how they will prepare her. I can't be judgmental of Ruffa simply because I don't know her at all. However, she miss informed the public by saying that 98% of filipinos speak English. That is totally wrong. As of March of 2006 survey, 65% adult filipinos understood written and spoken English. Please remember one can't speak what one can't understand. Secondly, a well meaning advice can't be open ended...e.g. "Beauty with a purpose & beauty with a brain". Was that advice leading to commit sin or to glorify God?

Well, Ruffa was able to speak English because she lived and studied in the States for a while with her parents.

Ipagmalaki mo ang wikang Tagalog. Mas expressive ka sa wikang Tagalog. Do something that no other Filipina delegate has ever done before - get an interpreter. There is no shame in that. Say a couple of lines in English to impress the judges at the end. Go and win the actual title for the Philippines. Stay true to yourself.

It's more like 63%. English fluency is not a true measure of a person's intelligence, in my opinion.
