bigtim George McNeill did have more footage on his old public speaking site. There was footage of the Wolrd Series at Wakefield vs Tommie Smith et al. He must have it. Send him an email.
that crowd is massive, if theres that many people down the score board end the bookies end must have been huuuuugley packed. and is that the tightest final on handicaps? cause apparantly the green fella was only off 7m as the out marker
Further to my last comment it was widely felt that George McNeil would have won the 1972 Olympics he even raced against and beat a race horse. Does anyone know where i can find some more footage of this great athlete.
@bigttim1 . Borzov won in 72 in 10.14 very easily. arguably he couldve gone a shade under 10.10 if he hadnt celebrated his win. mcneil ran 11.0 hand timed over 120 yards in 1970 for the new world record and 11.14 for 110m on the same track in 1971. 120 yards is 109.7m. so at his best mcneil wouldve gone sub 10.2 electronic over 100m. keep in mind that sprinters were all heavily using dbol from the early 1960s- it was common to even write it into their regime. dbol is a powerful AAS.
What not many people know is that this man was one of the greatest sprinters of all time (that's no exaggeration) who was denied the chance to compete at the highest level because he was deemed to be a professional because he had a short football career earning pennnies. I know the distance isn't raced over nowadays but he broke the world record 4 times in 1 night at meadowbank stadium in 1970 and the record of 11.14 still stands. he even beat olympic champ Tommy Smith 3 times at Wakefield.
Thanks for your comments. WE are currently undertaking an archiving project for the Stawell Athletic Club and hope to unearth a few more gems. Maybe subscribe to the Jump channel and you will be advised on new uploads as they come to hand. THis is likely to happen prior to the 2010 Gift. Regards - Jump Media and Marketing.
Thanks for posting this (& all of the other Stawell finals on here now!!). I've read George McNeill's autobio many times & until now have only been able to imagine the races. This is top quality footage. Is there more out there?
Does anyone have any historical Powderhall footage they're prepared to post?
John De Coite was my Grade 6 teacher... sly dog told me he WON this race LOL.

not forgetting his 11.00 timing for 110m from scratch in the New year Sprint semi @ Meadowbank in 1971.
