Im pretty sure on Vai's jem he has a piece of blue tape usually when he plays live. Slash's humbuckers sit a lot lower so he never really has this problem.

No its an old guitar (1988) and the nut is worn and his string or strings merely slipped out the nut - he was putting the string(s) back in place before continued playing, He deliberately moved the pick out between his thumb and index finger into his other fingers - so he could use these to move the strings.
This happens from time to time - particularly with older guitars

if YOU read into it you'll know that les paul he's playing isnt made my Gibson. its made by a guitar luthier. i cant remember the guys name but slash got given 2 or 3 les pauls by this guy whilst recording appetite, 1 of which that 1 with 3 pieces of wood making up the top on it. another one being the gold top he played on the illusions tour of guns with the very dark back.
and theres a sister to the les paul he's playing there which looks similar. it was in 'Guitarist' magazine a while ago.

Yep definite string issue. Thats the bad thing about tune o matics. when they are new, they're great,but when they get older and worn, its easier to pop them out than to pop them back in. Sad thing is, most guitars of Gibson caliber (LP style) use the tune o matics. Even LTD's.
yeah, his favorite guitar is that one Les Paul Replica he used for the first half of the Appetite tour. then he switched to his famous red-orange sunburst guitar taht he uses here.

Slash is the ultimate pro. Ok, so there was a tech problem. As Van Halen's pa said, so your foot slipped? Keep riding! Slash takes a lot of criticism for playing Hendrix at a tribute or Van Halen at the hall of fame, but he only has more respect from me for doing so. A true pro and great musician
looks lyk the string came loose either from the anchor at the bottom or the groove at the top, not slashes fault, theres a 1 in a million chance of that happening

Yep definite string issue. Thats the bad thing about tune o matics. when they are new, they're great,but when they get older and worn, its easier to pop them out than to pop them back in. Sad thing is, most guitars of Gibson caliber (LP style) use the tune o matics. Even LTD's.

Slash is the ultimate pro. Ok, so there was a tech problem. As Van Halen's pa said, so your foot slipped? Keep riding! Slash takes a lot of criticism for playing Hendrix at a tribute or Van Halen at the hall of fame, but he only has more respect from me for doing so. A true pro and great musician

looks lyk the string came loose either from the anchor at the bottom or the groove at the top, not slashes fault, theres a 1 in a million chance of that happening
