  • I like NIN but love joy division

  • I like NIN but love joy division

  • Koolest song and The Crow movie rocks I love them both

  • this is blasphemy

  • @bursan Do you post every message twice retard,,,

  • this is blasphemy

  • the two most depressing bands I listen to combine...awesome :D

  • OMG I love Salt N' Pepa!

  • Something tells me most of the Joy Division fans commenting here also listen to Oasis and The Verve.

  • Fuck

  • @VinylCollective

    hahaaha!! FUCK

  • What a shit cover this is.

  • @29joydivision Trent is just paying homage to another great band. No need to be a fanboy.

  • NIN did a complete and killer job of interpreting Ian Curtis' lyrics

  • im not sure but isn't it "that stretch all true realities?"

  • I love this song but FUCK THE CROW.. Good movie but he should give a shout out to JoyDivision before he sings THIER SONG.!!!!!

  • @Sean4670 yeeaa! true words!

  • @Sean4670 I saw NIN live at Manchester apollo and they played this.....Said it was for Joy Division...happy now...

  • PUSH IT REAL GOOD!

  • At 1:56 he reminds me of Brandon Lee as Eric Draven

  • «looks like I've been able to say fuck on pay per view...*raises his water bottle* FUCK!»

  • fuck he says, wow your hard

  • hahaha i got mud in my azz!!!! Cool video just for that, let alone its a friggen great song.

  • this is by far the best live version of this song ive ever heard u can tell its fresh cause al l the instrumentation is still the same ....when they play this song now a days its still badass but it just doesnt sound the same

  • Killer song, every version of it.

  • I was a Joy Division fan many years before becoming a NIN fan. I loved Joy Division but I know that Trent is the most talented artist in my time, so this is a TRIBUTE and it's kicking,

  • If yu are referring to when I met the singer No.

  • Well you know how it is when what meets the eye is not a standard choice of something sumwhat chosen in time. Dear God the irony...DogGod that bands a f***ing Flop. tru? too sew. whey?

  • @SuperCaroline38 were u drunk

  • He sings like a girl....Ian rocked!!!!

  • Sad to see shitstorms in the comments. NIN did a tribute to an amazing band and specifically to the genius that is Ian Curtis and instead there are people here, claiming to be Joy Division fans, who do not appreciate this nice gesture and instead go on about how shit this version is . Likewise, I very much respected Linkin Park for covering "Wish", whether it was good or not, they paid a tribute to the band that influenced them.

  • no one sang like ian curtis

  • good, but not better than the original.

    love Ian

  • haha salt n' pepa

  • I think there is a reason why Trent made this cover. Maybe be to remind what a great band was Joy Division... one of the best covers ever!

  • I fell in love this song when i first saw "the crow" some years later I discovered NIN and I really started enjoying and admiring his job....Now it all makes sense

  • good song for a cover, but i think you cant get a "bad" cover from an absolute outstanding song (original by joy division) as long as you know at least something about music.

in my oppinion its a cool song but not even as great as the original. if you like this song, i ask you to listen to the original please. i dont think this is an authentic cover. they perform it in their own way yeah, though i dont have the feeling they understood the idea/theme of the original.

  • @Meltorizor

The original is definitively worth listening to :) and definitively different.

however it is trent fucking Reznor covering this, be glad you didnt get Johny Cash with his 3 chords ommiting and changing lyrics or some pop star

No other name comes to mind for a better person to do this song , still not the original! but also worth a listen :)

  • @Pierceher U r fucking crazy. Johnny did a great job. Everyone loved it, Trent did too. Guess you are just stooopid.

  • @Sevensixseven78

Johny is of course good, that is for illiterate Rednecks like you :) not gonna argue :)

  • idgaf, i think this cover is amazing.

  • Great cover. What a show!!!

  • It sounds a bit like an attempt to clean up a song that was meant to be played raw and dirty.

  • REALLLY LOVE THIS ONE!!! this is ultimate Draven's song!

  • Im sure everyone watching this at that time was like "nobody gives a fuck about salt n pepa...sheesh".

  • Im sure everyone watching this at that time was like "nobody gives a fuck about salt n pepa...sheesh".

  • I can't really knock a band for covering good music, but this really is a mediocre attempt at best. No one will be able to recreate Joy Division (New Order was very aware of this) and the vocals really don't do the original justice in the least. That being said, this cover does not reduce my opinion of NIN at all.

  • In memory of Brandon Lee !

  • @MayaBerlin in memory of ian curtis.

  • Very good cover

  • The songs are recorded 14 years apart. Joy Division became New Order, check out there music. Nothing lasts forever, something you have to deal. NIN did a great cover and added to it effects that worked for the movie it was chosen for. People really need to not read deep into mindless shit.

  • This surpasses the original in every way, just like every cover that Trent Reznor does. For further evidence, check out his superior versions of "Night Clubbing" and "Warm Leatherette" with Peter Murphy on vocals.

  • It's not that good but since I like both bands...

  • THANK GOD HE GOT HAIR

  • @GALLERIEVONDADA

thats right......i wish he gets new ones......

  • Poor Joy division, poor "Dead souls", Nine inch nails is a song killer.

  • man i miss the 90's

  • I like the bit at 1:33 where Reznor stops playing the guitar and the volume stays the same while the second guitarist plays the riff, which prompts the question 'Is Reznor's guitar even plugged in?' The bass sound is impressive but I have to admit don't see the point in this cover after 20-odd years of listening to the Joy Division original, which, in my view, in untouchable in its synthesis of beauty and power.

  • Beauty done different. Gorgeous cover, the somber feel to the base is just lovely and the guitar is wonderfully abrasive along with Trent's screams.

  • SALT N PEPA LOL

  • one of the better JD covers around

  • ian`s voice and dance was better

  • Saw this performed live about a year earlier I think. Man what I wouldn't have done to see Joy Division do it live in Manchester.

  • lol Salt & Pepa

  • Lui manque la voix de Ian ....

  • RaidersRock, obviously you must not have been around 25-30 years ago because there was nowhere near the tech. in music that there is today so obviously nin has a distinct advantage but in no way better than JD.

  • Can't beat Ian Curtis voice.

  • i think if you are on a concert, u probably think "uh nice song, well covered" but when I'm on youtube and have the choice between this and the original, i prefer the original :-D

  • October 31!

  • Opening drum beat means you know something bad-ass is coming...

  • what the fuck is that ringing at the start?

  • este pana hace ese cover demasiado duro!

  • Does this song make anyone else want to take all there clothes off????

  • I like how you have a choice of Trent or Salt n Pepa HAHA

  • @andbanned

    That's the 90's for you.

  • instrumentally I like NIN better, but as much as I love Trent Reznor he cannot match the soul and emotion of the late Ian Curtis.

  • i want to have reznors babies.

  • @abk83able Even if I am a man, I agree with you!

  • I like how the bass guitar dominates the other instruments.

  • Soy super fan NIN pero la neta no le llega esta rola ni a los talones a la original

  • The engorged arrogance of the stereotypical american "Rock Legend?"....

Rock legend being a questionable statement.

"I'm gunna say fuck on pay per view".....Hmmm a truley Imaginative and thought prevoking statement

"This is somthing we did for the Crow"..... No thats not entirely true is it reznor? you covered the material origionally produced 15 years earlier by Ian Curtis, Stephen Morris, Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner origionally known as Warsaw more commonly Known as Joy Division.

  • I never knew this was a cover. I thought he wrote it for the Crow. You learn something new everyday...

  • Joy Division wrote this song for NiN to cover... its a fact. But seriously, the JD original was awesome, but NiN just 'nailed' it with their studio version which was on the soundtrack of The Crow (an amazing soundtrack, one of my top 3 of all time)

  • @MrHSingh fuck ya! the crow soundtrack is what turned soundtracks from a bunch of hopeful 1-hit wonders into actively searching out the best music. can't wait to hear what trent does for "the social network."

  • @nothingmusic42 yea i cant wait to hear what Trent pulls out! i was 12 when i saw the crow and heard the soundtrack and it opened me up to bands liike NiN, the Cure, STP, RATM...

  • @MrHSingh how do you figure that out? Joy division wrote and released Dead Souls in 1979....reznor did'nt form nin till 88 and the crow was released in 1994. You dont know FA dick head.

  • @stevebikebarton DUH really? what i meant was this song fit NiN perfectly.. idiot.

  • its a nice cover but the original is far superior i mean that these 1 is just missing the passion, the coldness, the emotion, the epicness but oh well what can ya do RIP Ian Curtis

  • i like NIN, but you just cannot cover songs from joy division and be better than ian curtis. sorry trent reznor, i like you but bad idea. sounds flat, without passion, or not the same kind of expression and emotion ian curtis gives all his songs.

  • This song could be about telemarketers. "They keep calling me..."

    I'll shut up now.

  • @dandelionhero -- LOL! So true.

  • @dandelionhero lol you sound like my father. good one!

  • not as good as the original.....the soul is not there...there were a possessed epic feeling in Ian Curtis voice that is absent there....

  • Nothing on the original.

  • Beautiful voice of Trent

  • mmmm not bad, but version Jd is better

  • Muchas veces mientras vivimos, pareciéramos que morimos, creo en definitiva una vez muertos, nunca sabremos que lo estamos.

  • i love this song

  • classic!! fuck u if dont like it

  • I think Trent Reznor and 9 Inch Nails have Done this track no harm at all. It's is EPIC!!!

Ian Curtis and Joy Division would be proud. Great Cover!!

  • Comment removed

  • how cool with this guy back then? whoa.

  • I would give my left nut to be born in 1980. I was born in 1991 and didn't get to see one of the many great woodstocks of the 90s. i love nin.

  • u sound totaly shit

  • This version is horrible compared to the original.

  • i bougth a cd , german with the whole, performance, mtv had better quality but my cd. i could say is one of my jewels

  • calling me they keep calling me

  • Мёртвые Души (Dead Souls)

    Кто-то уносит эти сны,

    Что указывает на очередной день

    Дуэль личностей,

Которые все тянутся в настоящую реальность.

    Они продолжают звать меня

    Звать меня.

  • kind of shitty sounding bass guitar on this song

    NIN still rulez though

  • I was there........................(I wish)

  • @TheLastPancho i was there best bands nin, metallica, santana, 4 day of rock peace and love and other things

  • a great tune. loving the electronic/industrial sounds of Nine, Joy division, Gary Numan, Bowie, Depeche Mode and emerging acts like AllFlaws

  • I love this track and The Crow was such a classic film!!!!

  • salt n pepa!

  • I saw NIN in Phoenix during their last tour with JA. Wasn't to pleased with the set-list, however, they played this... and it made my night. Such a chill song

  • It's a good job Trent is a musical genius cos the evidence here says he would never have made it if he only had his voice ;)

  • Lol Woodstock 94 was sponsored by satan inc.

  • I have just asked Alistair and he can't recall sponsoring this event. And he much prefers the original.

  • hi folks, I just upload my first video with another NIN's song. your rates and comments will help me alot in the future xD

    watch?v=edqJhdQPgHg

  • majestic!!

  • 1994 was one of the best years in music, hands down.

  • Man, I could go for a Pepsi right now!

  • salt-n-pepa!

    Can't wait! :D

  • really, how?

  • I thought it was one of the better cover versions I've heard. The bad idea was calling a concert Woodstock '94.

Who was it sponsored by again? Pepsi?

  • i think it's a great cover, even though i love the original

  • Massive respect to Trent Reznor for attempting to cover this classic.

RIP, Ian Curtis and Joy Division.

Man, I miss the bitter, nihilist 90s.

Eff the peace and love of the hippies.

    DARKNESS AND CONTEMPT FOREVER.

  • Best comment ever! :D

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 Totally agree. The bitterness and nihilism has a greater affect on the psyche; thus, more powerful music. The hippy mindset, I would say, is the weak-souled cowering of the nihilsts who default to ignoring problems. Darkness and contempt forever, too!

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 +100000000000000000

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 A-Fuckin-men

  • @GroinsItchin --thanks, man.

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 Yeah i bet your a lovely happy person :P

  • @LiamAndrew11---not as happy as you are when you masturbate to your Justin Bieber posters, Liam! :o) Don't forget to wash your hands, cupcake.

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 Typical answer aswell haha. Mate I've listened to Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, Korn, Sepultura, Deftones, Nirvana, SoAd etc. since I was about 9... I've grown up with a negative (yet fucking amazing) soundtrack to my life. Just saying saying you want darkness and contempt forever is pretty 15 year old goth like haha. And then attackin me with anti-pop remarks proves my point. Just hope you are a teen otherwise it's sad as fuck ;) p.s I miss 90's Trent :(

  • @LiamAndrew11 ---Did you really take my proclamation that literally? Its a little tongue-in-cheek, but there is truth in it as well. Darkness and contempt are as much a part of human reality as happiness and frivolity. My gripe is with those who believe that peace and love conquers all life's problems. This was the sentiment of the hippies at Woodstock '69. As we've found out since then, this is unrealistic and kind of pathetic. Its only when you embrace the dark that you appreciate the light.

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 The 80s had some dark dark music that was bitter expressed contempt for war and violence. Skinny Puppy. Dylan Masters of War was dark lyrics "i hope that you die and your death will come soon". Hendrix Machine Gun. Eric Burdon and The Animals - When I Was Young.

Dave McGowan wrote about lite "hippie" music w strange ties to govt and Pentagon, producers w CIA links.

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 attempting....its not better than joy division i agree with you but....attempting

  • @DestroyerofSouls666 Fuck you, man, fuck you...

  • personally i would rather see joy division play this but i like both original and covert

  • I remember this. I was about 30 yards from the stage. Amazing show.

  • Lucky you!

  • wow! I dare to say it's better than the original..

  • settle dow killer, nothing is better than the beaging. if you never heard the original you will never like the 2nd.

  • I like this cover. Joy Division is forever...

  • alright.. of course nobody will ever be able to cover Joy Division cos Ian Curtis meant what he sang. That said, it's a cracking song

  • pre-pubecent? Trent has such a manly voice!!! Granted, it isnt the greatest cover, NIN could have done better.

  • wow this is pretty good :)

not as amazing as Joy Division of course but really good all the same.

  • Awwr, I funkin' love it.

  • Comment removed

  • Nails is probably the only band that can really cover a JD song, and make it their own while preserving the elements of the original that make it amazing. Well done Trent

  • well put

  • i think both versions are good :)

  • It's not as good as the original, but it's pretty good!

  • What an experience it must have been to see them live that night. I remember watching this on TV.

  • Alright cover but, prefer the original.

  • i liked the cover. dint love it but i do love the original more. kudos 4 bringing a classic to people who never heard Joy Division do their thing. holla

  • I´m sorry...this is not a good version.

  • Whoo, Ian Curtis. Whoo, Trent Reznor covering Ian Curtis's awesomeness. :)

  • joy division is way better then nin you fools lol

  • there both equally amazing.

  • that ebow sounds fantastic

  • I guarantee that not one of the pot-addled rapist boneheads in the audience ham even the slightest appreciation of what they were swaying around to.

  • I adore Joy Division's "minimalism". I also adore NIN polished studio quality noise and such. Um, I guess I'm a weirdo who has such a broad admiration for music that I can love two bands that both fall under subgenres of goth. It's a stretch, I know. I love both versions of this song.
