"What did you think it was...a ghost?" "Uh, yes, so I pulled out my Bible and my rosary and started praying as my head spun around and I began projectile vomitting pea soup".
i remember it woke me up. bed was shaking like crazy. at first i thought it was a train goin by cause i live a block away from the tracks. tryin to hear train noise but didnt scared the crap outta me
Despite the magnitude, earthquakes affect places differently. In the Midwest, where the land is flat, quakes can be felt from much further away from their epicenters. Also, you have to take into account the makeup of the soil, rock... earth's crust... All of these things also should affect the perceived intensity of the "shaking," with land features affecting how far it "travels." That's why California's 5.4 was "confined" to Southern California and this quake was felt for hundreds of miles.
If a 6.9-7.4 Quake Hits the New Madrid Fault the next time then the Eastern half of the US would have problems worse than Haiti. and more worse than West Oakland and the Marina district of San Francisco because most cities in the New Madrid fault are on riverbeds
Also Most cities in the New Madrid fault spend their emergency services on Hurricanes and Tornadoes. In CA its quakes, landslides and wildfires. In the Bay Area some cities are on marshland near the Bay, and some cities are on Cliffs and some cities are in Hills.
I felt many earthquakes/tremors after the 5.4 and the 5.2. In fact, at school I was the first one to notice a tremor in the morning class. At first my teacher thought I was joking, but then the whole class felt it. The kids across the hall were screaming their asses off. xD
i felt it like it woke me uup and was like why is my fucking bed shaking and i looked down i got scared but then i jumpd on my bed than it pushed me like off and my tv started shacking
The ironic thing is that at my school the day before it just so happens that we had an earthquake drill so somebody new this was going to happen cause I was terrified I have never felt anything like that in my life. St. Louis, Mo.
i'm at msu in east lansing. i was up at 5:40 est (don't ask why) but felt quivering at my desk. i sat up straight- lifting my elbows off the desk thinking maybe i was causing the shaking, then looked at my floor lamp which was swaying back and forth a few centimeters. very strange feeling!
haha- "These ladies are from the South - you're from Worth, you're from Homer Glen." That's ridiculous!!! Near southwest suburbs! They are desperate over at Fox News Chicago - hell they could have maybe actually interviewed someone in at least central Illinois....
I live in Clay county, Indiana which is about 60-70 miles away from the epicenter, and I felt it really hard here. I rolled over in bed and looked at the clock and it was 5:36. Then I heard a deep rumbling off in the background. It got louder and louder and then the whole house started shaking like crazy. I was half asleep and didn't know what was happening so I freaked and literally jumped outa bed and braced myself against the wall. I thought my window was gonna rattle out! lol it was awesome!
Im on an upper floor on a hill. The dynamics are perfect for feeling vibration. There have been plenty of very mild ones over last year. Shaking was bad enough I went outside, rather than wear the building if it peaked.
yea you got that right..i'm in owensboro. around 50 miles away from the center.falling out of you bed through that...huh!! they had to ben drunk. but all in all it was a good quake. just wait for the 9........
I live on the other side of the state from the epicenter, in southeast Iowa, and I felt it very prominently here, it knocked me out of my bed, and onto a concrete floor [I sleep in a basement room], however, we're somewhat used to it in this area, as we're constantly feeling tremors from the New Madrid Fault.
Well my dog sure in the hell didnt do shit!! We all slept through the whole thing. Im surprised my kids didnt even wake up. The second one though me and my fiance felt. I was trippin!!!
I live 10 miles away from Peoria, IL and I was just starting to fall asleep when I felt my bed shaking and heard the windows and dressers rattling. We live near railroad tracks and a state route, but it sure as hell didn't feel like a train or a semi passing. Freaked the hell out of me.
I believe it's 3:36 they are talking about and it is just a glyph in the video. Nothing going on with her face just the video. It would be freaky as hell though if her face just started "creasing" like that though.
the center was in southeastern illinois i live in southwestern illinois near st. louis. the time was 4:36 am, when the 5.2 quake hit. my house shook hard. things fell off the shelf. lasted for thrty 30 seconds. there was two earthqaukes the second happen at 10:15 am late morning. the size the the second one was 4.6.
"Did you think it was a ghost?" God, people really are pretty stupid that are on TV. Sure, we don't feel too many earthquakes here in the midwest, but everyone should be smart enough to think it wasn't a ghost. When the earth moves and "quakes", it's an earthquake. Simple.
wow. Chicago must've not have gotten it that bad. I live about 60-70 miles from the epicenter of it, in Clay county, Indiana, and it was bad here. My bed was shaking really hard and I literally jumped up and braced myself against the wall cuz I didn't know what was happening and watched as stuff radle off my shelves, my bed was shaking like crazy, my stereo was swaying back and forth really bad and it was hard to keep my balance. We had another trimmer this afternoon. It was a 4.5. Scary here!
haha. I live in Louisville Kentucky. I felt it. Went back to bed too. I don't care. lol.
This video reminds me of Dane Cook, when he talks about interviewing people after an incident. They ask the person, what happens? And they tell us nothing what so ever. I think we were ALL in bed and didn't know what to think. But thanks for giving this woman's opinion. Saves my life. lol. I love sarcasm.
I was in bed and I thought my dad was shaking my bed! Finally I realized it was an earthquake and I ran to my dads room and told him about it and ran downstairs and stood under the door in case of an aftershock. And I live in a really shitty apartment building. I felt the aftershock when I was walking in the hallway at school. REALLY shitty way to start the day.
I was up till about 5 this morning (Central time) and was playing Age of Empires II with 5 other friends. 3v3. Me and my roommate thought it was our friend with us shaking our room.
You think weird things when you just start acting like jello.
in this video, people's faces melt.
