  • don't forget to pray before you go to bed . so let's hide all the d and coke for a rainy day/

  • Such a brilliant song! LOVE Sean!

  • Sean Lennon is fantastic!

  • Somewhere, John should be proud, his son's really talented and hadn't become a pop trash of this years. (:

  • I love this man to bits <3

  • hes a spoiled rich kid fuck em

  • this song remember me john, and i loooove it

  • Can you just imagine if John Lennon was still alive, and someday be in stage with his own son? or with Julian? I love this song..and Sean does a great job. Everyone who dislikes this, by saying his trying to hard like his dad, are ignorant and doesnt know anything about music.

  • I actually think he's been doing a great job. I think people just want him to be just like his father. I'm sure John would've wanted him to be his own person and would've been extremely pleased with what he's done so far.

Good job Sean. Keep it up, man.

  • This is whack. I understand that he's trying to emulate his dad but he's doing a bad job of it. Find your own voice Sean.

  • @upabittoolate Sean sounds like his dad bc he is his son and John spent a lot of time with Sean when he was little. John's father was a singer too. He even talks like his dad. I just read a biography about them so this is how I know.

  • @AgaschaJane You completely misunderstood what I said. Also, reading 1 book doesn't make you an expert. I spent a lot of time with my old man when I was younger. I'm not him. I have my own voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @upabittoolate I don't consider myself an expert, I just read that John's dad was a singer and I thought I'd share. By find your own voice do you mean find your own style? I think Sean is a lot more pop than his dad. And so what if he sometimes sounds like him? More John Lennon is no problem. Sean makes really soulful music.

  • @AgaschaJane That;s my point. The only reason we're even here is because John Lennon was a Beatle. It has zilch to do with Sean's own work. And yes, "find your own voice" means finding what's inside you. Be it reflection, ego, insight or whatever else we can name, it's incumbent upon an artist to find his own voice.

This piece here is nothing but Sean trying to emulate his dad. "Soulful"? HA! Want an actual, working definition of that word? Listen to Marvin or Curtis.

  • Comment removed

  • "@upabittoolate Last time I'm writing. I don't know why you think he's the only reason we're even here. Again, more John doesn't hurt. Sean has mad style. This conversation dried up years ago - comparing son of music legend to legend himself. By soulful I means Sean's songs aren't flat, and devoid of character and emotion. Yes, I know Marvin is about as soulful as it gets. I guess I'm just overreacting to your overreaction."

  • If you think Sean would've made it here on his own merit (that's not to say that every promoted artist gets coverage because of merit), you're deluded. If you think that Sean isn't doing anything but singing a John Lennon song, you're even more deluded. "Mad style"? How so? This isn't him. This is him trying to be his dad. If you want "soulful", check some Sam Cooke. Sean Lennon ain't even in the same dimension as the guys I mentioned. I never overreacted. I spoke my mind. This is whack.

  • @upabittoolate Seriously? They are related. Of course they have similar voices.

  • @mirokyu Seriously. "Voice" refers to more than just his instrument you nincompoop. I'm talking about him finding his own mode & his own music; the sound that comes out of his own soul. John Lennon was brilliant. We don't need to reboot him.

Ravi Coltrane's voice sounds almost identical to John's. But as appreciators, we expect Ravi to go beyond his father's work. He's supposed to make his own statements & formulate his own ideas. THAT is finding your own voice.... Seriously.

  • @upabittoolate I'm aware that voice refers more than his instrument and sound. But his musical creativity does come from his father - he played John Lennon's songs as a kid, and had a great influence from him. However, Sean still has his own unique style of music, sound, "voice", if you will. If you listen to John's songs, and then listen to Sean's work, you will definitely notice a difference in the emotional content of the music. Both very unique and should be enjoyed.

  • @mirokyu Of course his creativity comes form his father. He came from his father. But what he does with his parental gifts is up to him. What he did in this case was simply mimic his dad. That's not using his own voice. If I wanna hear Lennon & Plastic Ono, I'll just slap on a side. Thsi kid needs to do his own work.

  • @upabittoolate Sean does do his own work. You do have ears, eyes, and a brain, right?

  • @mirokyu No. Seas is puppeting his father.

  • @upabittoolate So that's a "No" on the eyes, ears, and brain part? Also, please direct me to the John Lennon film "Friendly Fire" with accompanying songs. Sean Lennon is a unique artist that is successful on his own right. You are just blinded by your own ignorance to realize it.

  • @mirokyu No. He's merely doing his dad's work. He needs to do his own work. It's really a simple concept. I never said he has to be "better". I said he has to do something authentic; something that he can call his. I don't understand why you don't understand that.

  • @upabittoolate He's writing, producing, and playing his own music. I don't understand why you don't understand that.

  • @mirokyu No. He's operating in the mode of his father's music. He's not using his own voice. This song in this video is every Johh Lennon song I heard 30yrs ago (around the time he got murdered). But it's worse because it's a pastiche. As John's son, it's his duty to take the music to a brand new place; not do what his father did. I don't understand why you don't understand that.

  • @upabittoolate This is not John Lennon's song. I don't understand why you don't understand that.

  • @mirokyu It's every song that John Lennon ever wrote & performed. Are you familiar with Lennon's work? Why don't you get that? You must be a child. That's not an insult. But as a child you don't have much context. How old are you?

  • @upabittoolate I don't ever recall John Lennon's body of work adding up to make "Headlights" by Sean Lennon. I don't understand how you come to this conclusion. Are you familiar with Sean Lennon's work? Why don't you get this? You must be a child. I'm not trying to insult you, but as a child you don't have much context. How young are you?

  • @mirokyu Just about every one of Lennon's works sounds EXACTLY like "Headlights". You can't be serious.

  • @upabittoolate In all seriousness, I enjoy both John's and Sean's work and appreciate them as separate entities. Sure, Sean is John's son, and one can fairly say Sean's work is influenced by his father, but they are still separate and enjoyable bodies of work. If you don't like one or the other, just don't listen to it. It's a pretty simple concept. I enjoyed coming back to this video to comment on it - I quite like this song.

  • @mirokyu Yep. You're a child.

  • I look like a 13 year old Sean.

  • Lol Harry Lennon Potter, except the kid who plays harry Potter has talent

  • anyone think hes starting to resemble his father

  • he's looks so much like harry potter in this

  • At the end i was like wtf

  • Holy shit its the Gravitron. I thought it was only at our fair in Indiana!!!!

  • You should see Sean playing solo guitar in this video, then: it's the worst solo I ever heard. It's my opinion. You can defend him but the truth he is a bad singer and guitarist. I didn't like his worl and that's all. If you don't like of what I say, then "foda-se", "dane-se" You have the right of enjoying his work and I have the right of don't like of it.

  • @patoloco40 I've seen Sean live in concert and he's fantastic. He's a great musician and singer. His voice is beautiful in person. I agree- you like what you like and I'll do the same. Only, it's a shame to be so misinformed on such a terrific artist, but meh, your choice. :)

  • I enjoyed the song but it's kinda weird. you could make three good songs with that miscellany of chords that I consider totally unnecessary. Well, his style is weird for me and I just can't say he is a good composer. And his voice sounds like a duck or something. I prefer Julian. But Julian was brilliant in the past and today he's just a shadow of what he was in the 80's. What a pity!

  • @patoloco40 Sean isn't a conformist so the chords in his songs aren't going to be either. A beautiful song is a beautiful song. I'm not sure I could ever be a critic to the extent of breaking up a song or a poem and finding "unnecessary" bits. You either like it or you don't. I think he's a pretty amazing songwriter. Julian hasn't released an album in 12 years so what do you have to base this "shadow of what he was" comment? That Lucy song? You're a bit negative, eh?

  • @patoloco40 If your musical compass fails to comprehend the subtle, beautiful sense of these slightly intricate chord changes, then I would recommend listening a few more times.

  • Least favorite song on Friendly Fire. Still a great album from an awesome artist though.

  • His Voice sounds just like johns R.I.P kill Mark David Chapman

  • I believe John Lennon would be proud of both his sons, like any father would be.

  • I hate how people only like him because he sounds like John. I mean, this doesn't apply to everyone, only some. I think people should like his music because of HIS talent.

  • Better hide all of the cocaine....I think I saw Dr. Rockso in the neighborhood.

  • chances are most who like sean automatically like him due to his dad

  • @WRITERPOET123 not ture.

  • For some reason at the beginning of the chorus I keep expecting him to break into "If I fell in love with you..."

  • He sounded like John at the very beginning :D

  • all the way i think

  • this is one of my favorite songs on the album.

btw does anyone else think he kind of looks like The Warden of Superjail with those glasses? lol

  • @lucyinthesky16 oh goodness yes

  • This is a Great song!!!

  • Sure, he's got big shoes to fill, but this song is pretty good. I had it stuck in my head for a friggin' week!

  • ohh HELL no!!!!!! you did NOT just say that.

    show some respect dude!! wtf?!

just cuz youre not a fan, doesnt mean you have to say shit like that.

it takes a true asshole to wish someone dead for a bullshit reason like not being a fan.

    thats pathetic dude.

  • Leave dad alone dude,I'd have to go after you.......

  • Loser. Why would you say somthing like that. Brits dont suck... you suck.

You should be ashamed to be yourself you asshole.

    Go Caseycaseycaseycasey!!!

I HATE YOU GO FALL IN A DITCH AND CRY TO YOUR MOM

  • Go away, troll.

  • mmm its alright.... itll be hard for him not to be compared to john... thats what sucks about having an artist(s) as a parent... nice video though :)

  • No offence man but...You think it sucks he had an artist for a parent? lol.. He's filthy rich and never has to work a day in his life (not to mention the doors his name opensm up)... I mean, barring the fact that his dad was murdered (RIP John) I'd say Sean has got it pretty good...Whether he had a parent who was an artist or not. Peace! :)

  • This was pretty good ,Sean(uh, dad?).See, you'll make it, but don't listen to those only wanting to break you down and may'be we'll meet someday....

  • Yep, He is John Lennons son.

  • is that john lennons son?

  • at least he is better than his mom

  • tru dat lol

  • Damn ! Those claps are annoying! Listen, guys, a good song is a good song and a boring song that glues in our brain torturating us is a boring song, it's a fact. It's not a critic. It's a fact. And is this was a good song I would say: wow! what a good song", but I am still waiting for a good song of Sean that I know by the name ! I don't know any ! I am sorry. Well, "Too Late Goodbyes" was a good song, for example. A great song, brilliant.

  • he doesnt have enough soul. he just sings and gets it over with. he needs some soul, george harrison, jimi hendricks, even his father and paul mccartney

  • totally agree. his brother has it much more than him, too.

  • i am a nigger fucker

  • Uh,what the hell started this ?!

  • it's too bad he kept his last name ...he'll alway be judged as a lennon. Its unfair, but then life is unfair. Just ask Pete Best. Better, keep your day job, oh yeah ...

  • One Lennon used his dad's influence and talent to become famous...the other used his name. Shame on Sean.

  • he has his dads name... get over it. if your dad was john lennon, you wouldnt change your name in shame, you would wear it boldly and be proud of your name, and try to live up to your name. we each have our family's names, and fame shouldnt cause us to shun our heritage.

  • The song is better than most. But, he sounds like his voice is very Computer Enhanced and Synthesized. I would like to hear him sing in person just with an acoustic guitar to hear what he really sounds like.

  • He's kind of a combination of his dad and Elton John. Very cute!

  • good thing he got his dads talent not his moms

  • eh, ok

  • Great Song Sean. Great harmonies with your self. Is that you? One of my favorite musical parts is when you sang a vocal line which faded into a guitar following that melody on "Spaceship". Im sure we'll be hanging out at your next Portland, OR stop-over.

  • Super Emo. Damn son. Get some sun.

  • It's beautiful, Sean!

  • he's ok, John wasn't even that good, had a unique voice, he was more of an icon than anything else, some good tunes, good influences, mostly written by Paul Mcartney if you listen to wings, you can here all of the batles stuff in there hat paul did, there flavor mixed well. Sean, riding on John's coattail, nothing anyone else couldn't do....

  • If you listen to Wings your a Pansy.

John and Paul brought balance to each other and the modern world would not be the same place without their collaborations.

    George is still my fav.

  • I purchased this cd, friendly fire, right about the time it came out and i was glad i did. i love the album and the dvd that comes with it. i even saw him live when he came near. but now you people are making me sad, i have never heard such foul criticism of someone so undeserving. he is a great artist. his father was his own deal. he's not being john, hes being sean. they are similar because they are father and son! duh!

  • Yes Julian is a credit to John - only it's too bad Oko- No-No meant more to him than his own flesh and blood

Why people search out your single profile on a std personal site called meetstd dot c om, are you there?

  • I love this...Love his sound, sounds like John Lennon. He's so cute.....

I think ppl are having trouble with it because it doesn't have a Beatles sound.

It's like Lisa Presley. Her voice is deep, sensuous and feminine. PPL are mean about her singing because they are comparing her to Elvis's style instead of letting her be unique. Accept them for the creativity they have, for their own style.

  • yes...this is very horrible. seans only good song was "Home".

  • He needs to stop making music is what it is. "hey my dad was john lennon, I'll just do what he did".

Look at bob dylan's son with the wallflowers back in the mid-late 90's. He had his own sound...

  • He needs his "own" voice.

Also on the outside, he needs his own fascade. I see the glasses, hair, the visuals, all scream John Lennon/70's Beatles music video.

This is horrible. But I can definitely understand the reasons behind it, and I can understand why this is so bad if you look at the outside influences most likely surrounding him.

He needs to get away from his cove or shell, and go live life, get some experiences under his belt... This comes off as very pretentious.

  • I have this record and he does sound and look alot like his dad, but who doesn't? Point is he's talented and the album is great. Oh and by the way people PLEASE learn to spell! His name is Julian not Julien.

  • We are all looking for John to come back but the fact is that neither you or Julien have the angry, young Brit mentality that drove your Dad's creativity. There is another way...

  • this is just embarrassingly awful. but there is at least some hope he will stop making records now after this. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

  • Sean's was a baby when his father was ripped from him through no fault of his own. Plenty of singers try to simulate Lennon. Sean has every right - more than anyone else on the planet - to recreate his dad musically. I grew up loving John, Paul, George, and Ringo and every change they - as both a group and individual artists - went through. Sean has talent. He will evolve at his own speed. He - like his father before him - might just end of surprising the world with his genius.

  • the models are hot, you rock hot chicks!

  • Yeah, I s'pose Sean could lose daddy's glasses...

  • Yoko pushing her kid on the public again

  • Sean is an excellent musician, and sounds just as amazing live as he does on his record. His voice isn't altered for the record, that's just how he sounds. He's also a really nice guy.

  • Sean is a record producer's dream... They dress him up to look like his dad... write his songs and produce them in such a way that the references are more than just "by chance"

and then tell him how to act ...

Yoko Ono has more to do with Sean's take in the music industry than Sean

  • Harry Potters latest gig.

  • HAHAHA....

  • hey where's Julian? Oh that's right, he doesn't exist. Maybe tomorrow I'll run out and buy a "Give Peace a Chance" Coffee mug, or maybe an "Imagine" neck tie, or "Instant Karma" instant hot cocoa mix, or....

John Lennon, competing with Elvis and Jimi Hendrix for title of the hardest working dead man in show business.

  • I totally agree - one thing I can't stand are fathers who forget the children they already have when they make new kids with new spouse. It's a cryin' shame .....

  • I also love his use of the State Fair ride that allows the riders to stand around the edge while it spins -also good in the movie, "Candy" starring the late Heath Ledger. Great film. You go, Sean. You Are COOL.

  • I saw him on tour last year, and he and his band were fabulous!

  • sean you so so so suck please lick my %^&^s you spoiled rich bastard...the only way you can redeem yourself is to get a real job like bussing tables at the carnegie deli for like 5 years and then you can write songs ok?

  • he is an embarrasment to john

  • Julian would so do John proud if only John had taken time to remember him........

  • I think its cool he sounds like his dad. Like a family tradition. But it would piss me off if him and Danny get together and form the beatles 2 or somthing lol

  • Excellent tune.

    Exceptional lyrics.

Honey sweet voice laced with major restraint.

    Good composition.

Honestly, I think the only reason people truly seem to hate him is the fact he's John's son. Suspend your disbelief for a bit and although it'll be EXTREMELY difficult forgot that The Beatles ever existed and I'll bet you this sounds a lot nicer than you first thought with that knowledge.

  • Repeatative tune.

    Fake Edgey/Emo lyrics.

The voice your hearing has been tuned and mastered by professional sound engineers.

    Composition... I dunno.

I never even know about sean lennon till now, and now that I seen this video, hes trying to be like a 1 man beatle group which just isn't going to work.

  • He plays all of the instruments needed but on this album he worked with several other musicians, most notably Paul Simons son Harper.

That voice isn't engineered at all, check out some live performances.

    Emotive lyrics, definitely

    but "Emo?" Probably not.

You should check out the song Friendly Fire.

  • By the way, I'm actually TheAbsolutionHowl and just jumped on for two seconds while my sister (who has terrible taste in music) went to get a snack.

    I hate the Jonas Brothers.

    A lot.

    Just clarifying.

  • Um yeah, if people are pissed that he keeps getting compared to john then maybe Capitol records should stop advertising "Across The Universe" in the upper right corner.

Truth is that there is no separating John/Sean because Sean's music sucks and if he were just starting out, he wouldn't get any publicity like he is because he's a beatle's kid.

I'm a beatles fanatic, but this sucks.

  • Why isn't anyone giving Sean a hard time about sounding like his dad? They sure gave Julian a difficult time of it in the 1980s. Is it because he is the child of John and the homewrecker Ono? Yes, she was a homewrecker and I will always think of her that way.

  • A thumbs up on your assessment of Oko No-No

  • As we get older we think we know how a song is supposed to sound like. But we don't. I don't want him to sound like John. All I can hope for is for him to be Sean.

  • Boy, he sucks. What a horrible singer. Must have gotten it from his mommy. Please, make this song go away. John must be plugging his ears up in heaven.

  • I guess this wasn't so bad..although, I do think he needs to lose the Harry Potter glasses.

  • headlights is the worst song on the album. i personally think the album is creatively and musically great. and freerangepancake, those are called complex chords, something you could not play. :)

  • Ah, böwakawa poussé, poussé, ah, böwakawa poussé, poussé, ah, böwakawa poussé, poussé.

  • Sean definately doesn't have the "magic"...and he has always turned the ear with his surprise ugly chord changes in the middle of something normal something.

Also Sean has an arrogant attitude. What a fucktard.

I met JULIAN once and he was the nicest, kindest, humblest person you'd ever meet, and HE has the inherited musical talent.

Imagine Yoko and Sean working so hard to separate Julian from his rightful family legacy.

Sorry, I mistyped the sentence the first time.

    Pathetic!

  • Man I wish I could have been born rich and spend my dad's money on diamonds and cocaine... for a rainy day. :-P

  • Julian Lennon is the real deal. Not Sean.

  • I'll differ with you slightly; Julian is superior as a vocalist but Sean is superior as a writer.

  • 541 - Before George died I had always hoped they would get back together for a tour and ask Julian to sing/play for his dad. That would have been awesome because he really sounds just like him.

  • Yes Julian is a credit to John - only it's too bad Oko- No-No meant more to him than his own flesh and blood

  • "Yes Julian is a credit to John - only it's too bad Oko- No-No meant more to him than his own flesh and blood"

--I couldn't have said it better.

I still wish for the Paul-Ringo-Julian concert!

  • I mean no disrespect to Sean because he's not responsible for the actions (or lack of) of his father but I really feel Julian was slighted and it is a shame - as for the Paul, Ringo, Julian concert that would a sight and sound to behold - you've got my vote!!

  • He'd be singing kareoke nights if it wasn't for his last name. He's decent but not that great.

  • why the hell are you crying?????

  • the new frank sinatra junior. sean stuck in 1960s; that's his gimmick. and how old is he? he near 30 years old!!! schools out; the 60s are over. this akin to re-doing 1920s jazz.

  • I agree, I'm glad this guy can capitalize on his father's name...

  • I think he sounds a bit like his father... not bad at all...

  • I'd carry my drums on my back to L.A. (or where?) to play behind him. And who are you calling OLD?!

  • All you old hippies cant expect him to be as perfect as his dad. He's got his own identity and I dig it. It retro with a modern dash of art. Not bad

  • somebodys stoned.

  • Is that why those who comprise the cognoscenti herald "Plastic Ono Band" (which was released in the latter half of 1970) as one of the best albums of all time? Vocals by the senior Lennon were never "bad"- and believe it or not the Beatles did manage to record exceptional material on occasion as solo artists.

  • sonny's been smoking the pipe too long.

  • like father (RIP), like son

  • harry potter lives! at least he isn't as ugly as his mom. "rock" music meant to put you to sleep. john lennon rolling in his grave (along with rotting in h*ll).

  • Worst carnival ever!!!

  • I just don't like his 60's image.

  • yes its 1 of john lennon's sons and if we could 4get about yoko then u might enjoy the music

  • cool

  • who is sean lennon. John Lennon's son???

  • yeah. Too bad he had to grow up with his mom... 'shudders'

  • no, he's Paul Mccartney's

  • Yes, he's the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono... Seems that both of his sons grew up to be musicians. :-)

  • Yeah! Harry Potter fucking rocks!!

  • i think it sounds like oasis, and the guitarist looks like the guy from oasis. his voice is kind of creepy.

  • That's a little excruciating, sorry.

  • Julian Lennon is a spiting image of his late father, John. Sean looks more like Yoko. Julian Lennon sings better.

  • Sean's a better songwriter. In fact, his first album, "Into the Sun", is really really good. It's not for the novice music listener, (i.e. Julian Lennon, kinda weak) Sean's stuff is tight. Unfortunatley, his new album is the result of a bad celeb break-up, so it's not great.

  • WTF is ti ?

  • I agree sernovolasco, I don't think he should try to look and sound exactly like his father because of his blood. I think it is cool how this type of music is still being released, but I would enjoy to see him do something different and unique. Not very original.
