  • Tight horns, sweeping strings, the Three Degrees on vocals, Gamble and Huff's house band MFSB laying down the essential 70s soul groove. I'm in heaven.

  • Thinking back to the time when we entered a discotheque for the first time at Rüsselsheim (Germany) in 1974. One of the best times of my life, away from the parents, aunts and uncles, feeling so free for a couple of hours. Meeting me first girlfriend their as well -:)

  • I wish I were alive in THIS era of music. I feel like music died officially in the 90's.... I LOVE music between the 50-80's. The styles and sounds were so dynamically different.....

  • The first stereo, a friend his sister a record = Phillysound compliations, enough? ;o)

  • Thanks for posting. Lately I've been tracing down some instrumental music I remember from when I was very young. This is one of them along with Love Unlimited Orchestra Love's Theme; Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti; and also Daybreaker by Electric Light Orchestra.

  • Im suprised Dr Dre aint sampled this yet, lol.

  • don cornelius left chicago, because he could not get his show broadcasted nation wide.

  • Definitive Dance groove: Soooooooooouuuulllll Traaaaaaaaaiiin!

Loved it then, love it now

  • Come aboard the SOOOOOOOOOUL TRAIN!!! Great song!

  • we danced ALL the time back then. We couldn't keep weight ON, forget about gaining weight. That's why there was so little diabetes back in our day.....no Nintendo or sitting around when the weekend came around. It was time to dress up and DANCE at ALL the clubs........maybe we should try it again (in our own living rooms - without all the cocktails! Dancing was FUN and IS Fun.....and so good for your body and mind!

  • @MsJollycholly You are correct. There was little diabetes back then. But, drugs were (and still are) everywhere. And according to scientific research, drugs are bad. So it kinda levels out.

  • @MsJollycholly The reason why kids play Nintendo all day is that the streets have become so dangerous, that it's very hard to get exersize outside, because of gang activity!! It has become hazardous to go outside, because of the gangs!!If the streets were made safer, kids could put the controls to the Nintendo down, and go out to get their exersize by dancing,at the clubs and Teen Centers!!Maybe then, the rate of diabetes would go down!!

  • @turbinexman - jon and turbin are both correct as it's a different day we live in now. But I can't help being nostalgic for the time when DANCING was EVERYTHING! Last night I watched a retrospective of SOUL TRAIN - the 35 years it ran on the air and I got up off my chair and DANCED with my kids; showed them it's not all spinning on your head with your 'crew'. But, time moves on and everything changes.....glad I grew up when I did but DRUGS have always stolen talent, even lives!!

  • @MsJollycholly I danced in the New York Discos in 1974 and 75 . I was 20 years old and without a care! Still have my Googbye Yellow Brick Road 4 Inch Rocker Platform shoes, They are displayed in a glass cabinet as a conversation piece at my home here in Rockville Maryland. Long live "DISCO" P.S. We were there Baby !!!!

  • @MsJollycholly Love that youre so right

  • @MsJollycholly Yeah, I could dance to 6-7 straight songs, but now i might make it through 2, HAHAHA!

  • @MsJollycholly it wasn't JUST dancing we were doing, if you know what I mean ;-) (also great for your body and soul LOL)

  • @MsJollycholly I totally agree with you.

if only you could tell my son that......

  • Platform shoes and bell bottoms getting down in the 70's. Dancing in the gym after Friday night football games. Freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, black, white, skinny, fat, whatever ..................we did not care we were having fun and doing it all over again with the same group would be like a dream come true. Do You Know What I Mean You Tube Fans????????????????????????????????

  • @hotstuffandicecream I remember ,and the stories that could be told...this is just great stuff to listen to again

  • When I was a kid , I loved it the first time I heard it !

  • I'm from the 90's and I love this, I wish I had lived earlier to see it.

  • Too bad there isn't a desent live performance of this tune; I'd love it that's for damn sure. Oh well...

  • Just love this song - always

  • all time classic

  • I was a young boy in those days.....

Young again when i play this song!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!! One of the best!! And will always be!!

  • Two people have missed the SOOOOUUUUUULLLLLL TRAIN!!!

  • im 24 and i love this song lol

  • The drummer and this song were both the invention of the "high hat" drum beat which transformed music into disco, pop, hip hop, etc.

It all happened after the experimental music era from 67 to 73. Once this beat took place, the experimenting was done and the public found an addiction to an easy dancing grooving beat that still is strong today - just listen to 'you be killen em' that recently came out and the beat HASN'T changed since it was invented!! MFSB changed it all. . .

    "

  • Can't help but hustle to MFSB! Let's get it on it's time to get down.

  • Comcast presents Soul Train!

  • Lovely, nothing like it today. Oh how I miss the sweet sweet sounds of yesterday. I can't hold anything aganist the artists of today but they can't hold a candle to the artists of yesterday.

  • ♦ MoTHeR ♦•♦ FaTHeR ♦♦ SiSTeR ♦•♦ BRoTHeR ♦

  • Genial!! Musica sin edad...

  • 1974 TSOP and the Flyers win the Stanley Cup....1975 Philadelphia Freedom and the Flyers won the Stanley Cup.

  • betcha last money!!! yaya

  • We cant hear Bitter Sweet by mfsb on youtube in Australia, what rubbish!

  • amazing how in the past you could identify a decade by a particular sound made in a particular city. in the1960s: the sound of Detroit. 1970s: the sound of Philadelphia 1980s: the sound of Minneapolis. (most of the)1990s to now: with a few exceptions, the sound of SHIT oh yeah by the way...this song is ferocious! Gamble and Huff, what more can i say?

  • Music pulled me thru d " nitemare on Elmstreet / Friday d 13th divorce of my parents.

  • After Motown left Detroit in 1972 I felt it kinda lost its way . However the sound of Philadelphia became for me a worthy sucessor. ( The more cynical of you could compare Gamble & Huff with Holland Dozier Holland ,The Three Degrees with The Supremes ,etc etc )I still have this album on vinyl and every now and then it gets an airing and sounds as good as ever especially at full blast .

  • I love this song ... I miss the '70s .... I was the happiest I have ever been back then ... miss the music, the outfits, the dancing, everything. I wish we could invent a time machine and travel back to that time ... this song always makes me nostalgic ... one of the best theme songs of all time ....

  • @LUCILU2010 Yes, I loved the seventies, I left school, started working at Harrods, started on the London and Brighton gay scenes (discos, nightclubs and bonking!), but I also remember the miner's strike, three day week, power cuts, the winter of discontent and the decade ended with Margaret Thatcher at number ten!

  • @LUCILU2010 agreed.

  • groove genial sensacional vocais inacreditaveis orchestra fudheroza

  • THIS IS A GREAT MOTHER FREAKING SOUL BAND!!!!

  • how come i cant find this song with them actually singing "Sooooul Traaaaain"?

  • 15 yrs old, and im lovin it

  • Wow-this sounds so hot on h/phones - the quality is stunning - well done. Reckon this & Love Unlimited Orchestra were 2 umbrella songs underwhich you could group all the singles into one great category( refer right )...hmmm-that doesn't sound quite right - so hope u get what I mean.

  • "...and you can bet your last money that it's all gon' be a stone gas honey. Wishing you love, peace and SOUL!!!

  • We are playing this same song for jazz band, it is going to be epic

  • I remember back in the day doing those Saturday morning chores so we could watch Soul Train in the afternoon! Those were the days!

  • Is Soul Train a black American version of Top Of The Pops? Top Of The Pops finished on British television in 2006, after being broadcast for 42 years.

  • @GrahamLondonUK

you got it right !!! It was on from 1971-2003

  • @TheNewsoul2 Thanks for your reply! I didn't know that Soul Train had finished, after an impressive run of 32 years. I think that it suffered from the same fate as Top Of The Pops, namely a huge proliferation of television music channels.

  • i like the bass in this video....lmfao

  • "Let's get it on. It's time to get down"!!! LEGENDARY!! Larry Levan used to pump this tune into a frenzy!! WERK! This is the bassline that classic house/dance music is based on! Brilliant!

  • Best groove o' the '70s. How fondly I regard those times, when piercing was confined to earlobes & tattoos were for scumbags.

  • sampled by duck sauce- grand steppin' quite good.

  • what does MFSB stand for...always liked this song : )

  • @bluebanger Mother Father Sister Brother = )

  • MrMotownManny, I'm the se age as you and agree 100% with everything you said. I miss the 70s a lot...best times of my life

  • "It's 6 O'clock in Central Europe...the news is next on AFN....

  • I played this song five times a week as my sign-off song when I was stationed at AFN (American Forces Network) Wurzburg, Germany many years ago!

  • Interveiwed this band in Cebu City when they toured the Philippines. Fat Sound.

Good days with Y101 the Rhythm of the City!

  • @ jasmineheart209 The reason music sucks nowadays is because we have bitches like Lady gagging singing....thats why. Plus her disgusting outfits and shoes.

  • SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLL Train!!!!!!!!!

  • Soul Train is a Don Corneilius production, in association with....Tribune Entertainment!

  • @funkg68 We think it's one of the baaddest things around!
