@lotzi20062006lotzi No, it doesn't. Whatever grip is more comfortable for the player grooves more. Grip doesn't change how someone grooves. If it does, it simply means whoever playing is more comfortable playing that way. Neither grip is better or has more groove inherent in it. Thinking it does is close minded and wrong.
@lotzi20062006lotzi What a bizarre comment. What does the grip have to do with anything? If he was a trad player using matched and it was messing him up, or looked awkward then I could understand it but it works perfectly. Why is it only DRUMMERS worry about this and not MUSICIANS? He could play it with a stick in his mouth, but if it sounded great, who cares? It's music. The sound is what matters, what grip he uses to play it is completely insignificant. Playing trad/matched means nothing.
An extreme set up but very well used, not too much.
I know it's being a complete pain but could you just list those cymbals from left to right?... Would be interesting to know what all of them are... May make my new shopping list! lol
The rack is actually made by Dixon - UK company that made a rack just like a Gibralter one for half the price I bought years ago. I think I had (changed now) 7 or 8 clamps, and the cymbals are actually on stands because they caused too much vibration on the rack that the tom mics picked up.
The splashes are on the left an 8" A Zildjian Platinum (not sure if they still make those) and the one above the toms is a 10" K Brilliant (also from a long time ago). The 10" has a large crack around the bell so won't last too much longer.
The kit is a Yamaha Recording Custom with shallow toms (8x8, 8x10, 8x12 rack toms).
I think those hats are a 13" K top and a 13" A Quick Beat bottom (flat with holes). I am not 100% sure as use different combinations for different things.
I really enjoyed listening to you drumming along to those tracks. You did a great job staying in the pocket! It was simple and very tasty, and you didn't overplay (which I love, because nowdays it seems like most people do). Oh ya and i thought your solo felt good and still stayed in the pocket. Over all great job man, keep doing what your'e doing!!!
Thanks for posting this, I've been looking for other drummers who use these CD's as part of their practice routines. I just have volume 1 and 3, but after hearing this track, I think I need to get vol 2. Thanks again for this great posting, you gonna do anymore from these cd's?
When I get round to it I will do some from the other CDs too. I like CD 6 (this one) and the Jazz one too (can't remember the number). Thanks for interest.
Nice job. I struggle with the timing in that solo section and you totally nail it.

If you play traditional, your playing grooves more! really try it...

Hahaha...Traditional Grip loses against the possibilities of matched grip...
