Storyline aside, I'd say they didn't want to bother getting another actor to be the Doctor.

Technically, if the extra regeneration energy that went into his extra hand shouldn't he look different? In the act of his hand absorbing the extra energy he was able to keep the same face. Wouldn't that mean that the "New Doctor" would look different? Or does Donna's memory of the Doctor interfere with that when she touches the hand?

@natalie32095 Eh, they came up with regeneration in the first place to account for getting a new lead actor every now and again. No reason they couldn't change the rules to account for a metacrisis--besides, a human was involved, and if a human grows bits back it's all the same DNA. Why not?

@TheAglover26 jack cant die. when rose brought him back to life in the end of series 1 after he was shot by a dalek, that made it so he can never die. rose brought him back with the heart of the TARDIS. So now he can never die throughout time. the TARDIS heart is time itself. so when rose brought him back: he cant die. you learn this in series 3 with martha. :D

@cyberman234 I know it was Wilf who knocked 4 times, The End of Time came after Journey's End as you most likely know, Donna didn't hear WIlf knocking in the future, she heard the heart beat of a Time Lord, which beats four times, like the way the Master taps, I expressed this knowledge 9 months ago to steer people on the right path, away from the Donna being linked to the Master theories back then, take care and good day :)
