  • Even as a fetus, John Green could still write better than Stephenie Meyer.

  • "Mooom, there is little brown things." Gets me every time.

  • i thought the same thing about stairs when i was little

  • Sidebar. Old school.

  • "I would have one long staircase just going up, and one even longer coming down. And one more leading nowhere just for show"

  • What, you mean having a lot of stairs is not a mark of wealth?

  • I love that story.

  • I can't breathe. Ohmygod.

  • Paper Towns screenplay?! Is this a thing, now?!

  • john says doo-doo at 1:16

  • @owlcityfan26 Their not making it. :(

  • WHEN IS THE PAPER TOWNS MOVIE COMING OUT????????? DRRRRGGHHHH!

  • "Link in the sidebar"

  • if i were a rich man yavadavadavadavadavadavada i would have three staircases. One for going up, one for going down, one going no where, just for show.

  • @strickerman101 I was thinking the same thing!

  • laughing so hard I almost spit out my drink, and I'm paused at 0:56 seconds

  • I love little misconceptions kids have. When I was a kid I thought planes shrunk in midair, because when you look up at them they seem so small. So the first time I went on an airplane I turned to my mom and asked her "when are we going to start shrinking?"

  • omg I have 13 stairs in my house >.> spoooky

  • John, I noticed you have a divot in your stairs.

  • I'm laughing so hard, I love this.

  • I was laughing so hard I can't breath.

  • Wait he reminds me of Holden Caulfield's brother when he says he is writing a screenplay, only Catcher in the Rye fans will get the reference

  • This is seriously one of my favorite vlogbrothers videos ever.

  • I actually thought that having stairs made you rich when i was a kid too, my grandparents had two sets of stairs, I thought their house was a mansion.

  • LOL Green is hilarious, who knew.

I guess papertowns has humor in it though, same with looking for alaska.

ACTUALLY, he reminds me of Eric from that 70s show looool :D

  • I had to stop this video at one point I was laughing so much. Who knew John was so good at comedy writing

  • wah i love how crazy people write as kids xD

I remember writing stuff like this when i was a kid... xD

  • Who else notices the book titled DEATH right behind John's head?

  • stairs=rich

i used to believe this also.

  • Gaaaahhhh! I can not find Looking for Alaska for my life. It's not at Wal-Mart or Target for the idiodic ban, and my local bookstores don't have it either. Not even Half Price books. I don't want to order online because I'm so excited to read it. Oh well...guess I'll just keep looking for Looking for Alaska...

  • @wolflover255 it would be faster to order it online than to keep looking for it lol

  • @jessicaaxo7 I bought it off of Amazon. I'd just rather support bookstores.

  • he grew up in orlando, florida?! Me too!

  • at what age did he write this? i can't figure it out because the pictures look like a three-year-old's, but the text itself and especially the symbolism shows signs of intelligence and awareness relative to someone a fair bit older- at least 9 or 10.

already exhibiting the signs of a great author :)

  • i <3 THE NING :)

  • You are such a typical big brother.

  • one question, which "26" are you talking about? Because I'm so confused.

  • FRENCH THE LLAMA.

that new year's story was MADE OF AWESOME.

    I. DIED. LAUGHING.

  • We have the same book shelves. Your book is on my book shelves, that you also have. I'm pretty happy with that

  • 0:06 YES! I'm not the only one who still says swimmingly!

  • BRAVO! Thank you.

  • OMG so im not the only one who thing wealth is defined by stairs!

  • I said "okay, last vlogbrothers episode, then I have to do homework."

    Two hours ago.

  • @Airstrip19 I know the feeling!

  • @Airstrip19 this is my life

  • What happened to the amazingness that is the movie form of Looking for Alaska and Papertowns. Knowing the Nerdfighters we could get that movie the top grossing movie of ALL TIME!

  • This made me laugh so hard! Oh thank you for making my day!

  • I am actually crying with laughter right now at this whole video

  • I have a lot of stairs... I feel really rich now

  • ...and hank you dont sme- well you could promise to take some more showers...

  • Oh John.

  • Even as a child, John Green could still write better than Stephenie Meyer.

  • John literally makes me laugh out loud. :D

  • and she's buying a stairway to heaven....

  • "At the bottom of the stairs, like a typical poor kid..."

only recently have I become a Nerdfighter, and this is why I am loving every second of it.

  • Anyone know what Alaska Young would look like? ((help please as I'm gonna go as Alaska Young to a costume party where the theme is characters from books))

  • @Saraaah2112 paint your nails electric blue and wear an orange tank top. and smoke. that's all I got :p

  • John,Looking For Alaska is easily the best book i've ever read, from the funny things The Colonel would say, to imagining the beauty of Alaska, and I even enjoyed the huge sad thing in the middle (you know what im talking about)

  • Tevye from fiddler on the roof also believes in the stair thing. :)

  • @EmmyBea yay! fiddler on the roof reference!!!!!

  • i read looking for alaska knowing nothing about it except that john green wrote it, and when i got to the part where she died, it was in the middle of free reading in english and i was so shocked and saddened by it that i had to physically calm myself. It is one of the best books ive read, and when i was reading it in english, i was crying without knowing it and my friends thought one of my family members had died.

  • best song that goes with alaska's death (extremely sad) is how to save a life by the fray :D

  • I Just Finished Looking for Alsaka. SO SAD!!!!!!

  • Mom, there are little brown things!

  • Love the book John! . . . All of them. Especially "The Best New Years Resolution Ever Happy New Year Streamers"

  • this might be the greatest story ever.

  • I was reading looking for Alaska. Once it got towards the sad parts..not going to lie...

I screamed "NOOOO" ran out of the room, and spent the rest of the night reading it in the bathtub. Oh, I loved it by the way.

  • @redzippedlips Why the bathtub? That is a weried place to read.

  • @TheAglover26 Not sure, it just seemed fitting. :)

  • @redzippedlips I gust that it was a quit place to read so no one will bother you.

  • @TheAglover26 It worked fine! comfy too :)

  • I totally thought having stairs meant you were rich when I was a kid too. First time I've ever known someone else to also have thought that.

  • I wrote a story when I was six about a rabbit that couldn't jump. Then, for its birthday, it received its "jumps." I'm now 15 and it's still hanging on our fridge.

  • You pointed to the sidebar and I got all nostalgic.

  • HAHAHAHAH I love writing by children. it is ALWAYS completely awesome.

  • "If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane."

  • @Fishilisation Ahhhh! Personally, I think that is the most overrated quotation out of the whole book. That one is beautiful, but I think there are much better ones, like "imagining the future is a form of nostalgia" and "I believe now that we are greater than the sum of our parts".

    Just my opinion though.

  • I got bored so I started virtually clawing John's eyes out with my staple remover.

  • Ninglect.

  • I love how John was still a hilarious author even when he was a child.

  • You should send that to your publisher. =)

  • If I were rich I'd have one long staircase just going up, and one even longer going down. And one more leading no where, just for show.

  • @LegendShark Dangit ninja'd

  • @LegendShark quoting fiddler on the roof?

  • @LegendShark someone likes Fiddler on the Roof :)

  • @LegendShark Fiddler on the roof...classic very nice.

  • @LegendShark If i were rich i would dig down to bed rock level. just to prove there was no void bellow.

  • I read "Looking For Alaska" for the first time when I was in the 7th grade. Ever since, Ive been reading it once a year. I've read all your books except am currently reading "Will Grayson Will Grayson" and I think they ALL are the best books ever. I LOVE "Looking For Alaska" I can't wait for the movie. I can't thank you enough for writing the greatest book ever :)

  • you were a hell of a good writer for a kid :s

I can't even write like that now

  • I get some cheap thrill from seeing the exact same type of dictionary that I use behind John Green in a vlogbrothers video.

  • That book is so cute :D

  • That made me double over in stitches. I think that book is more than amazing... You completely deserve your writing career :)

  • I grew up in Orlando Fl too

  • Thanks guys! I read Looking for alaska and loved it to death! I'll give that other book a read too! Thankyou :)

  • I agree that as a child I always thought stairs were equivalent to monetary success as well.

  • "The Best New Years Resolution Ever Happy New Year Streamers," deserves to be published

  • that was brilliant! hahaha i loved your first book

  • My definition of rich is not having to buy the terrible store brand pop tarts

  • So is Looking for Alaska a good book?

  • @jazzzverrills One of the best books ive ever read

  • @jazzzverrills Looking for Alaska is probably the best book ever. Give or take.

  • @jazzzverrills REALLY good. There were a few parts I even cried.... it was awkward because I was in school, though... I'd recommend Paper Towns (another one of his books) too. I cried while reading that one as well = )

  • So when can we expect this book to hit the shelves?

I don't care, cause it made my day! Thanks!

  • poor little John looks like he's going to commit suicide on every page. lawl.

  • BRAVO!!

    thank you.

  • I remember a few years ago in high school, my friend was talking about how awesome this book Looking for Alaska was but I didn't pay attention to it. Then years later, I found the vlog brothers and John was talking about how he wrote a book called Looking for Alaska and my reaction was something like "Hmm, that sounds famil- HOLY CRAP I KNEW ABOUT JOHN GREEN BEFORE I KNEW ABOUT JOHN GREEN!"

  • Wait... WHAT?! This guy wrote "Looking For Alaska?!"

  • @avilajulian Yeah, he's John Green! :D

  • Wait... The stair thing isn't true?!

  • Wait so Hank didn't have that bath? Like so many politicians he promised more than he could give *shakes head*

  • do you ever blink?

  • @AllieNella he says he does but, i dont know, i still have never seen it

  • I love seeing the stuff you wrote as a child. xD

  • no offense but when you were a kid you were kind of a jerk

  • Partly into the "after" stage in Looking for Alaska. How the hell can someone as upbeat as you write such a sad book? It's weird

  • Zeitgeist on the staircase bit, but the stairs must be above or on the first floor, basement stairs don't count.

  • You HAVE to publish The Best New Years Resolution Ever Happy New Year Streamers. Seriously.

  • When is the movie coming out?

  • I actually love your videos :D

  • ahhhahaha i have to peee so baddd that was a hilarious book.

PUBLISH IT! i will so buy it.

  • hahahah oh man i love that book soo much. i am convinced that John and Hank were made and forged out of pure awesome. and that they wre destined to make the nerdfighters and create more awesome people. (I think john should write that novel...although it would be more of a bioagraphy.)DFTBA

  • "I'll have one long staircase just going up, and another long staircase going down... and then one going nowhere, just for show."

-If I Were a Rich Man, Fiddler on the Roof
