As unfortunate as it may seem to some people, all animals need predation, otherwise they will overpopulate and destroy everything around them, as is the case with humans. Even human population growth needs to be slowed, which is why I think war is awesome and we need more of it.

That said, most hunters don't even know it's happening. Also, this "Shortage" you're talking about isn't a shortage. Since we killed all the predators the elk and deer have grown in population to unsustainable numbers, they in tern eat the young trees leading to deforestation. The only place in the article that talks about over population is in West Yellowstone which I have no problem with. It can be the perfect little animal utopia. That is not the case out side of it. I am basing my knowledge of it mainly from first hand accounts from 3-4 generations of Idaho hunters. If you want wolves, transplant them to central park its absolutely no different from gray wolves here.

The most important thing for myself and many other hunters is being in the outdoors in general. And before you say wolves are poor and defenseless, perhaps you should look up the multiple cases of wolves attacking or at the very least threatening people in Idaho since their reintroduction. Just last week a woman was out bow hunting and instead of calling in an elk, a 100 lb wolf charged her. She dropped her bow and shot it with her sidearm at 10 feet.

Its got to weigh almost 200 hundred pound.No wonder the elk population dropped so fast.Four wolfs that size could take down a mature bull elk as easily as it is for me to walk over to my freezer grab some steaks and cook them.Calf elk during spring don't even stand a chance.Seeing how 50% of calf elk die within the first week, not including the pressure from the wolves now.Good thing i live in the great state of colorado where the dow has kept all of our wildlife thriving!

Since we killed all the predators the elk and deer have grown in population to unsustainable numbers, they in tern eat the young trees leading to deforestation. The only place in the article that talks about over population is in West Yellowstone which I have no problem with. It can be the perfect little animal utopia. That is not the case out side of it. Wolves as a whole are still considered Threatened and Endangered in vast majority of the States (do a quick search for ecos.fws.gov sites). Look up the numbers of elk counted in the Lolo zone and the St. Joe drainage (like many hunting zones in Idaho)before wolves were introduced and compare that to now. Tell me what you find. And I might add that human hunting in these areas has DECREASED in the same timeframe due to wolves (which has robbed the state of Idaho of hundreds of thousands of dollars in hunting revenue).

Wolves go for the big game meathead! I went out this past week and tried to fill my elk tag with little success. I saw no Elk around the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River area but low and behold. I damn sure heard the wolves at night. Coincidence?
