John carlos is a great speaker , i had the chance to particiate in one of his track/field meet , out in palm springs california . As i recieved my metels he shook my hand and said congratulations . To me it didint mean alot , but as soon as i went home and looked him up , i felt very honered to have the privilage to shake his hand . 2 days ago he came to present my school with the "john carlos trophy" our school had won the meet . He had the time to speak to all 13 membrrs of the track team. Ju
The ridicule and even deaths of loved ones from societal strain goes unsaid. These men were blackballed, jobless and script of many citizens;on top of the already limitations posed to blacks/africanamericans during those times. The act of pride carried a painful stinch, but as stated previously, this is true history for all americans not just africanamericans.peace
And yet poor old Peter Norman still has yet to be recognised for his part. Carlos and Smith were pallbearers at his funeral and yet his own country still turns its back.
I remember reading an article about them in Sports Illustrated back in the 80s about what they did and the societal impact it had. I was only a kid then, but it was the only article out of 100s that I still remember vividly today. All people (not just African Americans) that are too young to see first hand what they gone through owe them appreciation for moving civil rights and human rights forward in the country.
Avery Brundage I hope your somewhere rotting away slowly in pieces!!!!!!!!!
