  • My father served in the 9th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. He was Christopher Jack Walton and was originally posted to A Company. My Dad’s Army number was 14614464 and he transferred from the Royal Fusiliers. He attended Parachute training course No.87. from: 13/10/ 43 to 25/10/43.

He subsequently joined the Machine Gun Section and served with Phil Ward under Sergeant Mara McGuiness. He was with this section on the Merville raid.

  • My dad was with the machine gun section of the 9th Battalion and made it to the Battery. I am proud of my dad and of you Don. God Bless the Brave men of the 9th Battalion. David Walton.

  • @TheKentishtownie I have shown Don your comment (which he was very appreciative) and as he collects records and information on the 9th and the raid on the battery, he asks is it possible to get further information on your father? Full name, rank, army number?

    Many thanks. Jim Peakman
