  • The back extension is a crucial exercise in CrossFit. . Done properly, the back extension strengthens the muscles which improves posture, helps strengthen or abdominal muscles, and (in my case) reduces back pains.

A Hip extension is movement in the glutes and hamstrings while keeping the back tight.

Both movements helps the athlete feel the movement of different muscles, which can be crucial in avoiding future lifting injuries.

  • I have to agree. I don't like the idea of rolling the back and I've never seen this done in a gym or with trainers. Sounds terrible for anyone with spinal issues too (though he mentions that). I'll keep my back straight.

  • Man I need to do some back extensions with weights. I'm starting to become a hunchback because of the weight training I do with my front muscles and my front side is starting to get heavy lol

  • Rolling your back is bad and may injury your back. Keep it straight.
