  • 'amene to all the comments. What heart the Hawai'ian ali'i (caretakers) had and it was expressed thru music that lives today, and as long as we remember our kupuna they will be alive in our hearts. Even in saddness Queen Kapiolani left this beautiful song as a memorial to her beloved husband, King David Kala_kaua.

Mahalo for all the U-tube postings showing this song lives on and on !

  • Beautiful!

  • Beautiful mele written during ugly dark forces that plotted and overthrew the Hawaiian nation for greed and profit, yes the same white barbarians that massacred the native American Indians.

His queen Kapiolani has an hospital named in honor of her efforts to persevere the depopulation of Hawaiians by the white man diseases and exploitation. His sister Liliokalani the last queen also wrote "Aloha oi" a sad song prostituted by tourisum.

  • @Barbarian216 LOl i agree such sadness! Now everyone sees the suffering everyone has too go through....everyone thinks about only them selves...

  • i live in kaneohe hawaii,, and this is one of my favorite hawaiian songs.....

  • She loved him so much, and he never got to hear this song. May this mele and her aloha live on forever.

  • I love this music. The older traditional hawaiian music. Sometimes I see and feel the trade winds blow then realize it's the voice of the elder Hawaiian singer. So Beautiful, so dramatic!

  • This mele cannot help but make one weep -- it is at once a song of such love, but then it is so sad because he never heard it. It is so beautiful. The Royal Family had so much musical talent and the songs they wrote have relevance still today. And they are so very poetic. I shake my head in amazemenet that such beautiful music can exist at a time of such ugly, mechanical sounding music.

    Me ke aloha,
