I was at after school rehearsals and I had a to sight read this song by myself because the rest of the 1st violins were gone. This song is so fun until you have to shift to g on the e string
At 2:45 when the cellos get the greensleeves tune back is so awesome when there is one bar to get more than halfway up the cello. It gives me chills when my section hits it
does anyone recognize the irish washerwoman? Its like only the majorest irish folk song and the melody in this song. Nothing against greensleeves though. Great song.
This the only classical song i love. Its the Cellos Ole for violas. XD And we have lovely cello melodies for balance. Take that violins. Hows it feel to have harmony? hahaha
I have to admit, that's true (lol, even though I play the violin). The Greensleeves part just sound better with the cellos, as well as when they play the main melody.
My school is performing this on our Trills and Thrills and Six Flags trip this friday~! I'm playing the end... solo...>.< So nervous and excited!!!!!!
@hamlet112492 Seems to be more underlistened than underrated to me. Not many people know about this piece, but I can see that the handful of us who do mostly agree that it's awesome.
@thisisntagoodname I'm sure that this group simply used parts from the last movement of Second Suite in F for Military Band, as it is the same piece and would fit together quite nicely. I heard a bassoon, horn, and flute in this recording as well, haha. It caught me off guard.
@Otherworldly101 Heh, I'm not too sure about that. I can clearly hear that there are a few extra variations of the melody than in the Second Suite. Also, there's that whole issue of the key (F versus what was done here)...
As a French horn player I'd love to play both versions of the song (even though the composition doesn't call for winds at any time in the original score of St. Paul). It'd probably be quite boring to wait through the entire St. Paul's suite though. XD
@JustJebus How nice. ^.^ My middle school orchestra's still playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars. I wish we could play more advanced pieces like this because they're so wonderful!
@kittyqueen132 haha, just make sure you practice for at least an hour a day... it only took 2 years (started in 6th grade) before I got into an honor orchestra wear we'd play level 5 and 6
