Maybe Men of Harlech sung by the Welsh soldiers at Rorke's Drift in ZULU or Tros y Garreg, (over the stone) or Morfa Rhuddlan about a medieval slaughter. .. and check out THE BORDER COVENANT a story of Welsh/American Patriots in the French and Indian War. Its got an indian massacre in it and the bad guy is a French Spy, its a brand new book im bringing out. Cheers!

If you are going to sing welsh songs then at least either their words or their meaning, not this shite! The song is about someone whose wife has left him to bring up their children. She may well have been called Gwen but she seems an absolute cow!

@rhodavies I understand your frustration as their is a lot of misunderstanding of welsh songs and history....but don;t be too harsh on this man...hes at least trying to love and respect welsh songs....while 99% of the rest of britain ignore it...so give him some dues even if you really dislike the version

Nice voice but unrestrained use of vibrato always puts me off. I think it often sounds like an old man with a shaky voice singing who is sort of running out of breath. I love this song; I would like to hear it sung by a treble. But thanks anyway.

Its a reverie of long past, of a beautiful time and place and girl. Daydreaming and slow, the vibrato is a bit lazy, and produces the mood perhaps of an old man singing about the distant past. It is also soft and sweet, not requiring much breath. The miracle is that such a combination of tone and message can keep interest, and that is purely to the credit of the lyrics and superior composition of the piece.

Yes, you are right, there is not a single picture of the town in the video, though this english translation doesnt really talk about the town of aberdyfi. Clychau Aberdyfi does more though, and talks about the legendary village sunk in the sea off the coast. Ill have to take some pictures of the town someday and make new recordings.

thank you...I like the Welsh too, but the song is great in either language. So many rare and beautiful Welsh songs out there, wish I could find the music to some of them. Also wish I could get back to Wales

I agree. The English words aren't as moving as a literal translation of the Welsh, but then no tranlation from one language to another can capture the nuances of original words.
