I never met Captain Domenic Calicchio but had the pleasure of sailing with his brother, Captain Alfred Calicchio for 9 years. Because of Domenic Calicchio's efforts during the investigation of the Marine Electric tragedy, the USCG did a serious overhaul on their inspection procedures.
@wcleeuwenburg My Dad always says that Dom Calicchio was the real hero-he made sure they released the report, though it didn't make him very popular. He only learned in his later years how many ships he'd gotten off the sea, and how many lives were undoubtedly saved.
Nice job of tying it all together. It was a horrific event. I never met your Dad, but I've met two of the other survivors who were in the audinece at various times when we've played that tune. I put the link on our Facebook page.(hopefully you don't mind)
Carol, Excellent tribute to your father and the men who lost their lives. As a Coast Guard Inspector and Investigator this story reminds me every day of how important it is to perform my job to the best of my ability. My mentor made the book "Until the Sea Shall Free Them " required reading for all of us going into inspections.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. We had the pleasure of visiting the Coast Guard Academy several years ago when my Dad and Bob Frump gave a talk there. Thank you for what you do!
Great video. A fine tribute to your father, the men of the Marine Electric, & their legacy. Their legacy lives on through the Coast Guard Captain Domenic Calicchio Award established in memory of their legacy, the investigation, & the fight to reveal the truth behind this fateful sinking. Because of the courage of men like your father, many lives were saved in actions taken that followed her sinking.
Nicely done, Carol! Great tune as well. I've subscribed to your channel. You can find me at RayBayFilmStudio (run together as one word.) If you send me a note I'll tell you about the weather out here. Best, Richard
