Many years ago I was able to rent a house with my children and my cats after a break-up, but was not allowed to have the dog. I left her with my ex, who did not want her. She's long gone now, (I was able to place her with a friend who loved her to the end of her days) but I will never forget her eyes after a few months of being tied in the back yard. Her depression shook me to the core - she did not deserve that. Thank you for your post.
