i am saying that he is not that bad- you have to have guts to do anything out of the ordinary these days! i play djembe too and i have my OWN STYLE.. videos on my page,,.
Man alive people, if yer gonna talk about Djembe, then please limit the dialogue to Djembe! Just because someone is critical of style, technique, notes, intonation, syncopation etc. is no reason to assume that the critic is a 'hater'. If you saw a guy on youtube playing a saxophone without any embouchure, any player worth their salt would be on him and believe me, no one is gonna judge them! Djembes are sacred, and deserve to be played as they are meant to be played. Anyone offended by that?
This is hot shit and I love how he is enjoying it, he understands the true meaning of Djembe, he is feeling good about himself and I enjoy watching him play! oh Im black by the way for all that shit about white people cant play that you heard me saying on other pages all changed when I saw this guy! This guy embodies the soul, he understand how to feel the drum and he doesnt give jack shit about how it sounds
he does not understand the true meaning of the djembe and neither do you. This guy does not even know the very basics of the djembe...can't even produce the three main strokes.
im trieng not to do traditional style im more on the expression. djembe traditional style evolve into what it is today because its strong african root that is why in my opinion no matter how i try playing i can not do it. i can play traditional style djembe playing but my soul whouldent be in the music because its not me. i love djembe i love what it represent. for me djembe represent freedom. freedom to play and to express. so go ahead play
Well, here'a another example of someone just plays sixteenth note patterns and thinks it sounds good. The bells on the ankles is neat, but thats about it; he's your average Dejembe player.
0Mattatouille0, for someone who "loves God with his whole heart, and understands without him you would be nowhere right now" (Quoted from your youtube profile) you really are quite horrible... Who gives a fk what patterns he's playing dude, he is making music ... and i totally agree with samsaranknight about "god has given us the gift of creation" This guy is a creator ... he likes to make things up. Get over it man, stop hating.
With all do respect my friend, I believe that God has given us the gift of creation, but remember that it was Him who started it all, and that I believe in giving God my all, giving him my best, and if that is what this guy is doing, then praise God, but I play a totally different style, and forgive me if I judge, but it my honest opinion that he is average. There is nothing wrong with that. Forgive me if I wronged anyone, I simply just stated what I thought, I could be wrong, I'm not perfect.
i think all people have the right ti express themselfs musicaly no matter what :) god has given us the gift of creation by music it is a blessing and a gift :) doesent matter how you play as long as it comes frpm the heart :) love it :)
no3 wen did men djembe players wear nore than 3 rows than bells...
no4 he needs to try another venture
no5 i dont care if he'd been going for half a day! he still cant play in djembe , you get better as yoiu tire out, the spirit should have taken over by then
there are people in ma country dat play for a living with no clothes on their baks apart from some pants and a wrapper and dont play like shit.....
I simple don`t understand one thing: Why so many so called Djembeplayer think, that you have to make as much strokes as possible to get a good rhythm.....just think about some groove in the things you play...just think about the language of the Djembe, using the different sounds....you´ll see, that many times less is more....bad playing!!
yes, that is true, but i added this video for different purpose.. this man was making his living by playing on the streets.. and he played for about half an hour.. and although it is not heard, there are many background sounds, so he has to play this way, so he gets the attention of the people passing him
If you look many clips of amateur djembeplayers, there is very often this same thing going. Lots of strokes and no groove. I personally think that sometimes less is more. It´s a matter of timing and even short silent moments makes a rhythm and are very important. Furthermore, one doesn´t have to play allways so fast. At the end, I respect everyone who plays djembe and creates their own thing. One doesn´t necessarily play traditional rhythms to be nice player.
@petereisen Thats were your Wrong...U see a drum has no format to be played......There is no right or wrong.....yes some are intended to to played ser ways....But lets face it....A drum is played to the comfert of one who is playing it.......And as long as he or she is having a good time and feels good thats all that matters...U see music was ment for feeling.... it is a way to express yourself so there is no right or wrong or bad or good....And yes i know i cant spell but it 2011...........
I like the sound of this djembe. I don't agree that all djembes should be "tuned" aka play high, metal-like sounds. This djembe actually makes a much more relaxing and pleasant sound than most others. Also, everyone has their own style.
Awesome o.o ...

No, this is not the traditional style of djembe playing, but I don't think he is trying to do that! He is making his own music.
Imagine if all instruments were only played in their "traditional" way.

Thats wright about the djembe(s) not all tunned the same. In the ensemble you need bass tenor and alto... America's fascination with the
ballett and the complete neglect of the villages has shown it's nasty little face to many times in this you tube. Blessed Day.....

euhmm, maybe a bit boring...
and his technique could be better...
and get that djembé tuned.... lol
