  • Thanks Leyla for your videos they are really helpful. You are an incredible person who teaches us something you enjoy to do. You have no idea how many people you are helping in this world. Thanks and God bless you more.

  • These lessons are very good. Thank you

  • Learn French! You can move to great places on Earth....Haiti, Quebec, France...on second thought, don't bother! The only French you need is a white flag!

  • @TheAndrew668 we all should thank her, she is teaching us a language for free, and she doesn`t even bother what the criminals say! got me !

  • French, Japanese and English. - That is fucking cool!

  • you speak like how many languanges??!?!?!?

  • thank u r great

  • i think you have a magnificent talent with languages. フランス語レッスン最高ー

  • thot parkour was meant to be non competitive? world champ? i have a coton but mine is fat

  • C'est du boulot d'apprendre tout ça quand on ne parle pas français...

Je vous trouve très courageuse ^^'

    Bonne continuation

  • You definitely have a command of languages. It is inspiring. You have a gift. By the way, did you know that you can be well compensated for advancing in the languages you already are familiar with, teaching other the languages you are fluent in and learning new languages all at the same time. If this interest you at all, contact me. I'll give you the details. Pleasure.

  • Super!!! J'aime votre videos clasiques!

    Sarah B Bright

  • Loved your video! it's not everyday that i see someone that knows french like i do. keep it up, don't pay attention to the "haters" out there.

  • Vous parlez tres bien le japonais. 日本語とても上手ですね。

  • You are building a following of some sort. Like a celebrity. All you have to do is teach a language and now about 3000 men are instantly attracted to you. Genius! Also interesting is how you got your American accent. It's middle American, like Ohio, Pennsylvania, or something. You're going to be on CNN or MSNBC sooner or later and probably do something even more extraordinary.

    Outstanding.

  • I've been learning French through the Rosetta Stone CD-ROMs. For asking for the time, they say, "Quelle heure est-t-il?". Is this also acceptable?

  • Yes, it is acceptable. That is how we say. But when you want to ask the time to someone who is, for example, walking in the street, you need to stop him. So you would say "Excusez-moi (excuse me)", then you would ask "Quelle heure est-t-il (what time is it?)". If you want to be very polite, say this : "Excusez-moi monsieur/madame, quelle est il s'il vous plaît? (Excuse me sir, what time is is please)". You can also ask "avez vous l'heure?" (do you have the time?(<=is that correct english?) )

  • AND FUCKING HOT.

  • cosign

  • DAMN SHE IS FUCKING GOOD.

  • y'a aussi "excuse moi, quelle heure qu'il est ?" qui se prononce comme "hé suce moi, quel enculé"

  • merci pour l'explication :)!

  • French people are the rudest people on earth. They hate anyone who isn't french.

  • I think you are a beautiful person. Wow, you speak so many languages, that's so great!

I kinda have a similar passion for languages, it's kinda hard to explain to people why.

حديثاً أدرس اللغة العربية. هل فكرت في دراسة العربية؟ ألا في فرنسا أفريقيون شماليون كثيرون؟

(Recently I've been studying Arabic. Have you thought about studying Arabic? Aren't there a lot of North Africans in France?)

    you are terrific at teaching!

  • you are teaching french (from france) but canadian french is very different, mostly with the choice of words... here, for example, you wouldn't say excuse-moi instead of pardon.

its really nice that you know japanese , impressive, good video

  • why are you doing japanese and english at the smae time wouldn't it be better/ess confusing if you made seperate videos for that?

  • Oh well I do what I can!

I think it's clear enough. It's all written in the video description anyway. If you're confused I'm sorry....

  • Bravo ! C'est très bien fait !

Add in familiar context "Hein ?" = "Huh ?" :-)

  • Thank you for the new video.

I hear these phrases in movies sometimes.

  • Finally a new vid!

  • Those words will help me a lot I need to start practicing. Just wondering if I can use "Sil vous plait" every time like I use please in English?

    Thanks so much Leyla.

  • yes absolutely! "s'il vous plaît" is a formal way to say "please". the familiar way is "s'il te plaît".

  • Great video Leyla. I really enjoy your approach to teaching French. I get so confused with the tense, etc. and your videos are very helpful. I do have a question for you. Are there any translation sites that you have found to be useful? The ones I have tried really aren't very good.

Merci Leyla! I will look forward to your next video

    Denis

  • I don't know of any translation site, désolée! Automatic translations on the internet are kinda aweful! Particularly when it comes to french/english transaltions (because of all the prepositions). I guess you can use it to translate words but not entire sentences.

thank you for your constant support :)

  • Merci Leyla. Oui, that is my experience also with those translation sites. I am finding that my understanding of French is improving daily, but there are still times when I need to look up a word. But I agree with you. If you translate a sentence, you normally get a nonsense sentence in translation. Have a great day and good luck in your new job!

    Denis

  • Hey great video, keep up the good work! Just have one question though, how did you learn Japanese? I see in your profile that you are "self-taught", does that mean you bought books or listened to tapes? I'm really interested because I'd like to learn a foreign language too.

  • A little bit of evrything: books, anime, tapes, YouTube vids... anything

  • bonjour,leyla

    bonne explication,

    et bon courage!

  • I think in casual French, it's less strict on the syntax.

  • You're always great, in precisely rendering not only pronounce and meaning of all those expressions... but also the circumstances in which each one should be chosen among all the possible ones...

I think that to know these subtle, precious shades of a language can make the difference, when using it in the life of every day.

    5*

    Hope you're doing fine, Leyla!

    Ciao dall'Italia! :-)

    Daniele

  • Hey, thanx for your concern. I'm doing good. just a lil more busy cuz I found a job ;)

  • Oh, this is a great thing!

So... best wishes for your new job! :-)

  • *busier

  • Hey, don't feel you need to use/write bad English ("thanx") to prove how natural and great your English is; it's already incontravertible! Nul ne saurait douter que tu as un niveau extraordinaire d'anglais... comme tu as surement déja entendu, tu parles l'anglais si bon que j'ai pensé au début que tu étais Anglaise/Américainne ! (Au fait, n'oubliez pas que les Irlandaises parlent aussi l'anglais... bien que notre population soit vraiment petit en comparaison avec la France ou l'Angleterre !)

  • hahaha Don't worry, I don't forget about Ireland :)

  • Just one question. Why is it "Je suis vraiment désolée de N'AVOIR PAS posté de leçons de français ces derniers temps" and not"Je suis vraiment désolée de NE PAS avoir posté de leçons de français ces derniers temps." ?

  • very good question! It's never crossed my mind! "NE PAS AVOIR" and "N'AVOIR PAS" are both correct and mean the same thing. I'd just say that "n'avoir pas" sounds a little more sophisticated.

  • Great, thanks Leyla! I love it when both options are correct. It's makes the lives of aspiring-Francophones such as myself so much easier!:D

  • En fait ce serait plus juste de dire "Je suis vraiment désolée de NE PAS avoir posté de leçons de français ces derniers temps."

N'AVOIR PAS c'est ce la plupart des gens disent oralement. Mais si tu l'écris, alors ce serait mieux de mettre "ne pas avoir".

Actually it it would be more correct to say "NE PAS AVOIR", especially if you write it. Most people say "N'AVOIR PAS" but in my opinion it is wrong and "ne pas avoir" sounds much better.

  • D'un point de vue strictement grammatical les 2 sont corrects. Après ça dépend de chacun. "n'avoir pas" est un peu pédant et sophistiqué, je le reconnais, mais tout à fait correct.
