  • Does anybody know exactly what is used to create that sort of effect for the voice?

  • Mmm, what are the chords he's playing?! or where could I find out?!

  • Does anyone else find this recording particularly eerie?

  • EMI is gonna have to release more Beatles product eventually. The box sets are what we have been wanting for the LONGEST time (especially the mono box set), but it's about time they started planning on something new. I say the next thing they should release is "The Sgt. Pepper Sessions" box set, just like "The Pet Sounds Sessions" box by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. 2012 will be the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles debut so I'm sure EMI has SOMETHING planned.

  • @MattHatter I would buy every noise made buy this band if it was available. And I don't normally like rarity albums.

  • WAH!

  • wonderful John, wonderful song, amazing - amazing! pics - thanks

  • scary

  • Just awesome.

  • i read that on wikipedia that it is its original title

so shocking what it would become

this song covers how much the song changed

from this raw demo to a number one hit. wow.

  • @Burromovie That's quite ironic actually. Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane were the first Beatles singles NOT to make it to number one.

  • @Scarperguy the public wasn't ready yet I guess.

  • @Scarperguy Wrong. 'Love Me Do' was the first single not to reach number one, which was also their first single release. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane was the first not to reach number since 'Please Please Me' (their second single release. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane was prevented from reaching number one by...Englebert Humperdink's 'Release Me'!!

  • @CrankCase08 Ah true, that's a really silly mistake of me to make. Love Me Do was highest at 17 right?

  • at :56, you can hear john say, "no one i think is on my wavelength." this was the original lyric.

  • i think this was recorded while john was in spain, doing 'how i won the war.' sept. or oct. '66. someone correct me if i'm wrong. great recording!

  • @crazziejoe ur not wrong. he recorded this in spain and there was one verse:

"There's no one on my wavelength / I mean, it's either too high or too low / That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right / I mean it's not too bad".

  • he was in the W.C ? ;)

  • great but please clean the back buzzing kinda indistinguishable at times great version though

  • Ah, so this song started out as a Donovan-type song.

  • what is that effect?

  • I was wondering the same Vazmusic, HOW!! Is yoko spreading old tapes everywhere?, Great this could be recovered, but Gee, there are so many of these rare takes, does any other band could have all these endless appearing tapes?

  • This is John lennon, I have a cleaner version of this and about 12 other stages of development, they were recorded on his home tape recorder, where he also experiments with double tracking his voice and plays an organ/mellotron etc, I will post them one day , also have about 20 studio takes in various stages and speeds some are so beautiful. been collecting for 30 years.

  • i like this version more than StrawBerryFields

  • How on earth do people get these demos? What did they break into his bedroom? Man!! It's great to hear it but it seems so invasive! he never meant for anyone to hear it.That's for sure.

  • T_T its So Beatiful !!!

  • Wow

  • I love this version, I wish it was cleaner and on the Anthology. It's lovely.

  • Wow. I thought I heard everything.

Thanks for posting... it sounds like a totally different song, different feel. Must be from his home tape recorder.

  • i like this version ALOT these parts are my favorite parts from strawberry fields forever

  • sounds kinda spooky

  • songwriting any one can post the words of this song it would mean a lot .. that is u can u ....tune in i mean a think wil be a yes but its all wrong that is i mean i do its to real and then its nite to day i mean its up to you that is not today i mean its not to bad if its not to late Help

  • and that bit of gibberish was influenced by...john trying to create a moving bass note to the progression. he was trying to say to paul "i can make my own frikken bass line."

  • this is john's songwriting in progress i dont think that this was any time after strawberry fields

  • this is so pretty

  • This is based on an original Lennon acoustic early Fields and this is Lennon, but this is not the original rendering. This is a distorted version that is not true to the original early Lennon take of it.

  • my god what a treasure!

  • as real as it gets

  • It's deffo John singing!

  • people who think this is fake are olumb stupid

  • you can be sure this is not a fake...Berherbi

  • where he record this demo?

  • I think in Spain when he did that WW2 movie.

  • It's not a joke it's Lennon sketching music ideas from 1966.

  • John Lennon could of made a second Strawberrry Fields Forever with this version/different melody. Sounds ace and completly different.

  • No-one I think it's in my tree...

  • this is him, you can be sure...

  • awesome, thanks for posting I had this on my dads PC ages ago, but it disapeared when he wiped it, could you tell me where you got it please?

  • Was it really called "It's not too bad" back then? How do you know that? It certainly is Lennon though.

  • Thats what the title said from the place I downloaded the recording from. I'm not 100% positive though.

  • I see. Well, I think the song had already a name: "Strawberry fields forever". I don't see why call it otherwise.

"It's not so bad" sounds like something you just make because it's the only thing in the song you can understand. But then again, the song has a name, "Strawberry fields forever".

Don't take it bad though, the recording is quite good.

  • Yeah. Thats just what it said as the title when I got it, so I posted it as that...I didn't make it up. I see what you mean though.

  • Yeah, "It's Not Too Bad" was the working title for the song. It's what Lennon sang when he was putting words to the chords he was strumming.

  • @yahikoli

i think Lennon mentioned in some interviews about this
