i never did understand how rini never did recognize them when she knew them in the future. it had the take them transforming for her to make the connection? it's not like their appearance changes when they are the sailor scouts.

I don't remember the storyline exactly... but how could it be that Rini, who knows all of these people in the future, somehow didn't know they were the sailor scouts in the past?
@bobdonda Same reason the Senshi didn't recognize Minako when they first saw her, even though they had already seen and meet her as Sailor Venus. Apparently, somehow, when they transform, people are unable to distinguish them from their civilian forms. In the future, Usagi had to give up her power to become Queen, so Rini has never seen her as Sailor Moon, and the rest of the girls are in thier Senshi form the entire time; they gave up their civilian identities to be full time warriors.
@bobdonda So, Rini only knows what the Senshi look like in their fighting form, not their civilian form, and like I said, there is apparently a big appearance difference b/tw the two, so Rini was unable to recognize the civilian girls as the warriors she knows in the future. I personally don’t see how you couldn’t know, but it’s anime logic! ^_^
@Usagi393 I understand the "anime logic" of not recognizing people in or out of uniform. But apparently I forgot the whole storyline of why Rini was sent back... I thought she knew the entire time that she was going to visit the past versions of the people she knows in the future... but clearly that was wrong.
I need to watch those episodes again and find out. I'm certainly she didn't just randomly choose Usagi to stay with... but then how else did she end up with this group?
@bobdonda Right, she knows that Usagi is her future mother, the future queen of Earth, and that’s why she purposely chooses to stay with her. She doesn’t, however, know that she is Sailor Moon and Rei and them are Senshi b/c of the whole civilian/fighter transformation difference thing. In R, Rini had no idea her mother used to be a Senshi, (she only knows her as the queen; Usagi had to give up her Senshi ability to become queen), so that’s why she is so surprised.

I haven't seen English SM so some things could have been changed, but I thought in Japanese SM, Chibi-usa (I guess her name is Rini in English) knew Usagi (Serena?) was her future mother. When they first meet, Chibi-usa demands the Silver Crystal from Usagi, and I don't see how Chibi-usa could have know she had it unless she knew who Usagi was and that she will be her mother.

They changed a lot of the plot, dialogue, character personalities, and edit a lot of scenes out, so it's entirely possible that while Chibi-usa knew Usagi was her mother, Rini didn't know Serena was hers. I only watched the first few episodes in the English dub before I was too appalled at the hack job that was done to SM to finish it! ^_^

@bobdonda Rini theorized that if she went back in time and stole her past mother’s crystal, she could bring it back to the future and save her future mother (like that doesn’t create a time paradox.) Problem was, Rini had no idea where Usagi kept the crystal, so when she saw her transform, she realized her mother is not the only amazing fighter her father told her about, but that she keeps the crystal in the broach she wears on her chest.
@yourfuturequeen When Venus shows up they reveal that the girls look different in real life vs their scout forms. They just kept the girls looking the same when drawing them so that people wouldn't get confused

What I always thought was funny is how Sailor Moon's and the Sailor Scout's identity was always unknown to others, despite the fact that they weren't wearing any masks or anything of that sort. LOL. Still love the show, even at 17 years old.

@grapetwistersoda about the pluto/neptune/uranus star power thing. the dubbing was done very very fast. cartoon network ordered all the episodes to be dubbed and aired everyday. so pretty much they dubbed on the spot and if they messed up they really didn't go back unless necessary..

I never understood why they all said "Star Power!" twice. XD I mean, DiC used to edit stuff out all the time for no reason, but they couldn't be bothered to chop out the extra composite shot where all the girls are supposed to be saying "Make Up!"?
Whatever. The point is, it's stupid for them to say "Scout Power" during the group shots, since they hardly ever use that phrase in other places. It creates a continuity error. Why do they have to say "Scout Power" sometimes and not others (it's like they always say it during group transformations).
It would have made more sense for DiC to remove that shot, since in their version, the senshi never say "Make Up", so it just leaves these awkward scenes where the writers had to make stuff up.
Yes, I did, except that I already know there are several times when they DON'T say it. Ya ever think of THAT? There are times when they say "Planet Power!", "Transform!", "Sailor Power!" and a million other different things. Oh, but most of the time, they don't say ANYTHING. That's the point I was making. I don't know why you're being so defensive about this. It's a continuity error that should have been corrected by excising the extra shots were the girls say "Make Up!" in unison. Simple
for sure. But you have to remember this series was back in 1992. So the whole 'change appearance' thing was still "new" :D.

What really just KILLED ME as a kid when I was watching Sailor Moon is that this is where the first set of dubbings cut off.
My Dad was actually able to get the subtitled rest of the R series and he sent it to me one year for Christmas.
And then of course Sailor Moon was never the same for me. I went back a long time later and the voices grated on the back of my skull. But I still remember it fondly.
hmm, i fail to see why people couldn't see the truth anyway, usagi (serena) is wearing the exact same clothes, only gloves, boots, and skirt 3-4 in. shorter plus a tiara. And its not like she changed the color or style of her hair >.>

I think it's amazing that people don't make the connection between the girls in civilian form and in senshi form. I mean, SERIOUSLY, compare them. Only an idiot could miss that!!
I think I read something awhile back that in actually when they are in Scout form that the look like other people (I think as to when they were guardians of the moon) Which would explain why in the original version they may say Make Up! which they totally took out of the english dub
It's funny...a few months ago i had this music stuck in my head, but i didn't know where it was coming from. Then i watched this and i was like...OMG it's my childhood cartoons making a comeback!
They won't dub it, i just read recently that North America will not be getting none of the rights to Sailor Moon Sailor Stars because "there will be a lot of controversy with it" so it's not gonna happen :( i'm pretty upset about it too because i don't like the japanese dubbed much myself.

What I always thought was funny is how Sailor Moon's and the Sailor Scout's identity was always unknown to others, despite the fact that they weren't wearing any masks or anything of that sort. LOL. Still love the show, even at 17 years old.

@grapetwistersoda about the pluto/neptune/uranus star power thing. the dubbing was done very very fast. cartoon network ordered all the episodes to be dubbed and aired everyday. so pretty much they dubbed on the spot and if they messed up they really didn't go back unless necessary..

@grapetwistersoda The people who dubbed Sailor Moon in English are idiots. I just saw that video you mentioned. It's almost as bad as Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto saying Star Power and then later changing it to their original form, Planet Power... then reverting back to Star later on.

I never understood why they all said "Star Power!" twice. XD I mean, DiC used to edit stuff out all the time for no reason, but they couldn't be bothered to chop out the extra composite shot where all the girls are supposed to be saying "Make Up!"?

Actually, the group shout was "Scout Power!" not Star. Which is used quite a bit in some of the episodes.

Whatever. The point is, it's stupid for them to say "Scout Power" during the group shots, since they hardly ever use that phrase in other places. It creates a continuity error. Why do they have to say "Scout Power" sometimes and not others (it's like they always say it during group transformations).
It would have made more sense for DiC to remove that shot, since in their version, the senshi never say "Make Up", so it just leaves these awkward scenes where the writers had to make stuff up.

Yes, I did, except that I already know there are several times when they DON'T say it. Ya ever think of THAT? There are times when they say "Planet Power!", "Transform!", "Sailor Power!" and a million other different things. Oh, but most of the time, they don't say ANYTHING. That's the point I was making. I don't know why you're being so defensive about this. It's a continuity error that should have been corrected by excising the extra shots were the girls say "Make Up!" in unison. Simple

for sure. But you have to remember this series was back in 1992. So the whole 'change appearance' thing was still "new" :D.
But I agree. You think they would wear masks to cover their faces, but i guess in the anime/manga wearing a tiara& sailor outfit with heels TOTALLY masked your identity XD!!

What really just KILLED ME as a kid when I was watching Sailor Moon is that this is where the first set of dubbings cut off.
My Dad was actually able to get the subtitled rest of the R series and he sent it to me one year for Christmas.
And then of course Sailor Moon was never the same for me. I went back a long time later and the voices grated on the back of my skull. But I still remember it fondly.

I think I read something awhile back that in actually when they are in Scout form that the look like other people (I think as to when they were guardians of the moon) Which would explain why in the original version they may say Make Up! which they totally took out of the english dub

They won't dub it, i just read recently that North America will not be getting none of the rights to Sailor Moon Sailor Stars because "there will be a lot of controversy with it" so it's not gonna happen :( i'm pretty upset about it too because i don't like the japanese dubbed much myself.
