He was a true hero, and hero's will always be remembered. How easy we forget what a real hero is made of, but Phil helped to remind us. Honest, True & not fake, give what he take, fearless, aware of what he got (family, friends etc) and much more! Many "hero's" today are those superstars that are famous because of look, money, and other crap. Phil was a hero because of many true things....

My condolances to the Harris family. Your father obviously was a hard working man that cared more about his family than he did about anything else. His family included all of the hard working people that fished the Bering sea, as well as his 2 boys. I hope that they follow in their dads footsteps and become as beloved as Phil was. A big Thank you goes out to all of the fishermen out there in the horrific weather conditions , away from their families for long periods of time , bringing back the great sea food that we all take for granted . Some folks have personalities bigger than life itself, and Captain Phill was a person like that. The world is a little sadder place, because of his passing. God bless his kids and loved ones. He reminded me of my late dad who worked his ass off also on the railroad and they were both extremely honest. Rest in peace.

It was really tough to watch the show tonight. I lost mom and dad back to back in 2005, mom D-Day, dad in Sept.. Ironically, mom was dad's primary care giver, as dad was battling cancer. After mom's funeral I was given the opportunity to stay with dad for a week, until my sister could get her work schedule changed to get dad to chemo/radiation treatments. I had not spent that quality time since I had been a child. Seeing Josh and Phil interaction with each other, was/is a true Blessing.

I feel bad, I was into this show but I could never find the time watch it. It's amazing though, how if this show never existed, he would not have as many people remember him. That poem is inspiring and moving, I would love for the time were men who worked saving lives, living dangerous but essential jobs, and heroes who sacrifice and go against the odds, to come back. We live in age where the richest men, whores of all sorts, and actors are more well known, and that's terribly sad to me.

Like many of you who watched tonights episode, I can't keep from thinking what a loss Phil's passing was. Phil was truly a down to earth good man, in a day and age where there are so few. Phil was never caught up with ego or competition, just a great guy trying to make a living. He could have just as well been a neighbor, friend or guy you work with. But none the less, he felt (to me) like a good friend. RIP Phil, take your place, i sure hope to meet you on the other side.

@CainBRO a season ago his boat got hit with a rogue wave. he was thrown out of bed and into the side of a cabinet, breaking ribs and puncturing a lung. He eventually got a blood clot in his lungs, and had to be hospitalized.

He got back out fishing and was under major stress (son told him he was an addict on top of that), and he was feeling very dizzy and almost passing out. when they got to port he was found face-down having a stroke.

Both Phil's son's are part owners of the Cornelia Marie, so it will be interesting to see which (if any) of them ends up running the boat. As for now the new captain is a man named Derrick Ray, he finished up this last season after Phil went into the hospital. I know he is a friend of the Harris family but I don't know if he will continue to be the new captain. But in any case the new captain has big shoes to fill.

I don't know what it is about Phil Harris, but I just loved this guy from the start of Deadliest Catch. I didn't know him, but the way the show portrayed him, he was an honest, forthright and all around good guy. You could see how much he loved his sons, his crew and being a fisherman. The Cornelia Marie was by far my favorite of the fleet and he was my favorite boat Captain. He will be missed. RIP Captain Phil!
