  • great coverage! Sun up to sun down!

  • What roads originally owned the Alcos?

  • @TheZeke1974 The RS-11's seen in the video are ex-NW and NKP. You can tell the ex-NW units by the boxy covers over the air filters at the top of the long hood. The C420 seen briefly at the start of the vid is ex-L&N

  • it would've been awesome if ALCO had survived because the EPA would be going nuts!

  • I love the thick black smoke from these. Everytime they notch up on the throttle an endangered speices dies out.

  • heating the planet one tank at a time! lol

  • How fast was that double-headed grain train going? Also, was he running on the ex-N&W Peoria District?

  • He was running about 30 mph on the line from Cheneyville to Danville, not sure if this is Peoria District or not.

  • If he was running to Danville, then it must have been the ex-Milwaukee Road. Was Handy Tower that was still standing?

  • Yes, Handy tower was still standing when I shot this video. The diamond was in, but the Conrail track was torn out right up to it.

  • Bring back the Alcos!!!

  • the desolate tower at 4:36-4:46 is Handy, where Conrail's Danville Secondary crosses.

  • it's to bad KBS couldn't have got the old conrail line from danville to champaign IL,, I think it got removed back in 94?

  • "it's to bad KBS couldn't have got the old conrail line from danville to champaign IL,, I think it got removed back in 94? "

That was removed in 1996. It was the old P&E.

  • I got on google earth and it would of seem to be a good line to have. I dont think that they have the money to buy, and lay down the tracks know. but it b nice if they did. I live outside of Laffayette IN and only seen them runnin by once acupple months ago

  • @pruitt3507

Im by the klondike road crossing and balls siding. I have albums full of the alcos making trips to downtown lafayette. I got several rides in the 315 (alco c420) and the 308. I was 12-13 at the time and am 21 now. Thanks for posting this video, brings back memories!

  • they let u ride whenever?

  • whenever they had time or werent on too big of a time crunch. I live a couple hundred feet from a crossing on their lafayette line. i took pictures of their alcos for months and finally they asked if i wanted a ride. i was 12 or 13, so whats the harm? youd be nuts to turn it down.

  • yeah it be nice 2 ride, ive never rode infront b4

  • great video - I remember these engines well...

  • where do they store the trains at?

  • A place called Iroquois Junction, south of Kankakee, IL.

  • Will the Kankakee Beaverville & Southern ever grow bigger,, surely there is more old lines to absorb ????

  • there is some of old monon tracks i think that NS took over and shut down. it comes out by 350 South an heads to indy then there is the old tracks that runs from Ill. threw Lindin (Old Monon station) to frankfort. But the rails are out an the ties are no good and gettin it from where the KBS line ends on the westside of Laffy to the other side of laffy would be hard but it be nice to take it over an back in operation.

  • 309 was a home-chop-nosed RS-11 off the Green Bay & Western. RSD15's were 6 axle units with notches in the forward hood.

  • to bad there GP38M's had to replace them. My favorite was 309(RSD15)

  • Nice work! Great to see high hood's at work! beautiful end with the sunset! 5/5 Rich

  • i have video of this
